Thank God for two championships

Without these championships, would this club have mainly middle aged and geriatric fans and be on the road to oblivion?

The last couple of years at the Goldstone, it struck me looking around the ground, how many old fans we had. The North Stand being the exception.

There are plenty of young fans on this board and looking around on Saturday, it appears there was a good mix of ages.

Would all you younger fans be so fanatical now if we were still swimming alongside Orient at the lower end of Div 3?

In fact would you even be Brighton fans?

Good point, but I think that football has become 'more fashionable', there is a greater interest in it now.

That comes and goes and often depends on the success of the national team.

All gates at matches rose rapidly after 1966. I was a youngster then .............

No I don't believe it's become more "fashionable". What age do you class as young btw?

Say under 21?

I would do anything to get one more match on the North Stand, it was a cracking place to be a teenager.

I am such a gimp I would probably follow Brighton like the aimless gullible sheep that I am wherever they went, but the Pissfield was not a nice place to watch footy for youngsters and I can't imagine too many new fans developing much love for the club if they went there.

So getting back to Withdean and winning the championships were instrumental and now it will be interesting to see how many of them stick around if we ever end up in (shudder) the dungeon again.

xx

I disagree. To be honest i decided to support Brighton not because of what division they are in,but the fact i decided to grow up,stop being a glory hunter, and support my local team!

You would have been under 21 when we won the two championships though BB

Football is alot more fashionable these days with the multi millionaires gracing the Premiership and all the coverage it receives.

I along with most others on the site would still be supporting the side just as much as I did in the dark days of Case, Wood and the other dross we had to watch at the time even if it wasnt for the Championship wins

I just wish I could have seen some success from my stint in the North Stand, we were mainly a laughing stock throughout my years there, Steve Gritts reign apart

Another point about the Albion becoming more fashionable, I think it is pretty true
At school there were kids who would take the piss if you said you supported Brighton because they were shit at the time, yet now wev escaped the doldrums and are winning titles, u see them all the time at away games, clad in albion shirt and acting like theyv been watching them all their lives!

That is exactly how I was thinking it may be. Those championships (and the upcoming one) will be the making of this club. Our away support over the last 5 years is nothing short of phenomenal and I'm sure that it is driven by the success we have had. Withdean being so poxy has also helped the away support blossom as well.

I think that we should also not overlook NSC in this equation. The fact that we have one of the most interesting and entertaining boards in the country encourages a lot of people to get involved.

We should never underestimate the efforts of Bozza and Co and be thankful that they do what they do for our benefit.
