Going to Koh Samui for wedding in July taking wife and kids (+16). Need decent hotel and cheap flights! Any suggestions? Thanks Cornish Seagull.

Fantastic Island. I had my honeymoon there in 2005. Not sue with cheap flights but am sure the agents/airlines will do some deals. An option would be to stay in Bangkok for say 3 days and then fly down? Chaweng (Spell?) Beach is the main resort and the beaches are fantastic so it really depends on the costs offered to you by the various hotels. Don't dismiss a few days in Bangkok as there isn't a fantastic amount to do in Koh Samui other than relaa, elephant trips, mopeds, snorkelling trips etc.

Also went there in 1992 and the places to go then was the Reggae bar and the Green parraot which are still there. You can't really go wrong as the people are really friendly and genuine. End of advert.

Make sure you let the airline/hotels you are on honeymoon (they may want to see Wedding certficate) as you may get an upgrade or welcome pack etc

best bet is to look on sites like travelsupermarket over the next 2, 3 or 4 months about onces a week & just note down what the cheapest flights & hotel you have seen, then if by chance there is a really cheap flight you will know to book it same with a good star hotel.

Pai in the North is chilled.

Koh Pay Am in the South is chilled. Koh Tao was ok last time I was there for scuba and fun.

If you like to avoid the sex tourists that go to Pattaya and Phuket don't go to Pattaya or Phuket - simples.

Ko Phi Phi is prettier and less cluttered with Starbucks/McDonalds etc. All those Thai islands are very crowded though.

Pia I love it!! Had such a great time there, It's a little gem. Hated Phuket and Pattaya you may as well go to Benidorm.

i went to koh samui about 8 years ago . we started off near chaweng and ditched it as although its a cool place it is choc a bloc with cvnts. there is a club there called green mango i think which often had fights outside. its a lovely island and the thais are lovely ... god knows what they think of some of the people over there. after a week on the lash and everything else we went up north i think to a place called bo phut. its just a fairly quiet small stretch of beach with a few hotels restaurants and bars etc . some cheap some expensive . we much preferred it here and if you want the life of chaweng etc just jump in a tuk tuk its not that far. we stayed in the imperial boathouse which is very nice but quite pricey.

have a nice time but i do honestly think if you want a family holiday stay clear of the big resorts and head north .

Phi Phi Don island. pure paradise. I've been to Barbados and most Caribbean islands but without doubt Phi Phi is the one I return too year after year.
