JoaoTeixeira has been told his roller-coaster ride with Albion is only to be expected.
The loan prospect from Liverpool scored and starred on his first two starts against Leeds and Bolton.
Teixeira has not recaptured those heights in recent weeks and the attacking midfielder has been overlooked for Portugal’s strong under-21s squad.
Boss Sami Hyypia said: “I think with young players you get this situation many times. That inconsistency is there and with experience they learn how to be consistent.
“It’s always difficult when you raise the bar yourself for the expectations with your performances. If there are times that you are not really hitting the bar or going near your top level then people think you are playing very badly.
“That is how it goes in football. For young players this is quite usual, that the level sometimes goes like a roller-coaster, up and down.
“When he gets his consistency, shows that he can play every game at the higher level, then everything is fine.
“Finding the level you have to figure out yourself. He is playing in a position where he also depends on his team-mates.”
The playmaker role of Teixeira, on the bench for the last two away games in the Championship, is under growing threat from Paddy McCourt as Albion try to end their six-match winless streak at third-placed Watford today.
Hyypia regards the Hornets as promotion contenders in a wide-open division. He said: "Going forward they are very, very good. They were last year as well.
"They have kept that going and for sure they have a chance, like ten, 11 or 12 other teams.
"It's a tight league. Before the season you put the favourites on the list but everyone has a chance. Burnley showed last year that an outsider can do it, so anything is possible."
