If the club think he is good enough to bypass the loan phase then that’s a very encouraging sign about his ability

I think its a sign of just how good of a young player we now able to bring in. They don't need the loan phase anymore, they are ready to play. I don't think players like Mitoma or Mac Allister would have gone out on loan if they'd qualified for a work permit when we first signed them, Potter also admitted (with hindsight) last season that maybe we shouldn't have sent Caicedo out on loan either. Enciso, Ferguson and Sarmiento have all come into the first team squad without needing a loan phase either.

It also helps that we've got a manager with the balls to play them.

Yes, but it's not too surprising. We have a small first team squad, especially with Tross leaving, Enock retiring and Lallana injured, we are likely to be lacking in midfield options For the cup game we had Gilmour, Mórán and Hinshelwood on the bench as Midfield changes. Therefore, if Gilmour does get a game then it is not surprising that the two new recruits would be on the bench for Saturday.
