What tea etiquette systems are in place in your place of work?

Reason I ask is because on my usual tea making time at 9.30 this morning I offered to make the 5 other people in my office a tea. Now for 2 years everyone has said no but today 2 of them said yer OK so I made them tea.

Dont get me wrong I dont mind making tea but will I now have to make tea for them forever. Nobody asks me whether I would like a Tea when they make it.

So I thought I would ask the good folk of NSC there views on tea etiquette and whether you offer it or not.

There is no formal tea etiquette where I work. If I want a tea it involves going upstairs to the canteen to get it. I always ask if anyone wants one, but I do this knowing that I will get one in return. I can not see why you have to make them tea forever? You asked if they wanted one that day, doesn't mean you have it ask everyday. We have one rule and its, never accept a tea if your not prepared to make one in return.

A couple of months ago I moved from my own little office into a open plan part of the building. They have a tea round for the entire floor. Last week one of my rounds involved 19 f***ing drinks! Fortunately it all comes from a machine so it's not too much hassle, just rather time consuming and a bit of a brain strain to remember 19 drinks on a Monday morning.

I go to the machine in the petrol station, get the cup, open the perspex thingy with the tea bags in it...

it does help that I generally work on my own, from a van.

Its OK here, I tend to make the tea once or twice a day, but I also get several cups made for me. I actually enjoy the break away from my desk. There is always a cup of tea on my desk when I arrive, which is lovely.

I have been made 2-3 cups of tea every day for the last 8 months by the same girl, and so far I have never made her one in return. I'm thinking about doing it at Christmas for a special treat.

I've only been at my office a few months and have yet to be welcomed into a tea circle, although the only one I've spotted near me consists of just 2 people which doesn't really constitute "a round". This suits me, I quite like my regular trips to the kitchenette and having a chat (or more commonly a moan) to whoever else is fulfilling their caffeine needs.

At my previous company I was in an office with about 8 people and I always seemed to do the first round in the morning, mainly because I need my early morning coffee and I didn't trust anyone else to make it how I like it (instant? FFS that's not coffee). There was one woman that felt guilty and kept saying she would make tea in return failing to realise I quite enjoyed it as part of my procrastination routine, much like going on NSC.

I have clearly JINXED myself by putting this on NSC. Nobody is making tea today... I'm off to make my second. *pfft*

Only five people in my office so a round system is in operation - if you fancy a cup you ask anyone else if they want one when you go. Some days I don't make any drinks, sometimes I'll make 2 or 3 (depending upon how many others are in the office - just two of us today for example).

Pretty even distribution of tea-making around this office, though I'd say on average I receive more than I give. I probably make 1 in 5 mugs.

There is one member of the team whose tea I always refuse as it is nothing short of an abomination.

Monobrewing is frowned upon here, which is fair enough I reckon.

Good thread.

Work on my own. What does annoy me though is every day I make myself 3 or 4 cups of tea, bring it from the kitchen and place on my desk and never once have I thanked myself. If this carries on I'll just stop making it.
