The reason he hasn't taken it is because he knows he wouldn't be able to handle the pressure of managing a "big club" again. He's found his level down in Division 3...
Taylor ONLY goes for a job which is a banker.Gillingham were well on there way with a good team in place,it was just the same with us.
Hull =new stadium ,big support and now money so in the third division my mum could get them up.I think this is so obvious with the bloke and have noticed a few comments directed at us.
f***ing twat.
I don't understand the animosity towards the guy, when he took over we were not in an automatic play-off place and were looking ok but not exactle champions. The squad he inherited from Sir Mickey was unproven at Division 2 and he coached them well, and tactically most of his decisions worked well. He lead the Albion to the Championship, and his points per game record is probably better than any other post war manager
I don't seem to remember people calling him all the names under the sun at Bristol City, Colchester, Peterborough and the like. He was not a Churchillian leader like Mickey, but did nothing wrong apart from flag up at a very early stage that the club did not have the resources to survive in Division 1. He left us not for another club, but because he did not think he could do the job with the cash on offer.
Look at Mickey with the likes of Dave Cameron, Aiden Newhouse, Jamie Campbell and Mark Cartwright, all managers make errors of judgement. I never warmed to PT the way I worshipped Mickey, but sometimes we are over negative
I agree totally with your comments, El Pinko*, I fully appreciate what Taylor did for us. Despite what people say, it was Taylor that won us the Championship, not Adams. Adams set us on the way, but Taylor finished the job. Dropping Oatway and getting in Junior Lewis proving the turning points.
It was just his comment this morning that riled me. Conciously or not, he definitely said it with us in mind.
*No offence, just think it's quite a good nickname. Good work, E Block Ernie.
I like the name too. I have known Ernie for over 20 years and can safely say he is the most deviant man on the planet. The El Pinko comes from the fact that I used to read The Guardian when on the train to matches, so clearly must be a lentil eating, bunny hugging poof
"we put Peter Taylor back on the footballing map" Charlie Oatway.
Why would Taylor leave where he is? no pressure getting paid a big wedge by his current employers and has the freedom to do Sky when he choses to.
He did win the league, he was honest in saying he did not think we had the resources to survive, I think he was wrong why else would teams like Walsall survive in that division, but he was honest and walked in plenty of time to appoint a new manager and give them the best chance.
Sadly this opportunity was missed and we paid the price for that early on. One win in that run of loses would have kept us up. How many of them loses could we have won with more belief in our abilities?
Probably the only thing we have to blame him for is saying the players that were there were not good enough, not good for their self belief.
I also like Peter Taylor. True, he did bottle it slightly but I think he really only threatened to quit to get a better budget and when that was not forthcoming he had no choice but to go.
Shame really because even with the budget he was presented with I think he would have kept us up.
