Went back to using an accountant last year after several years doing my own - best thing I ever did - she's saved me shedloads!!

Accountants if they ae any good will also try to assist with getting your tax bill down.

Won't do it myself......for £350 I let my accountant do my books / tax return.

how much does an accountant cost? that £350, is that for end of year return or for the whole year, advice etc?

For me paying accountants to do this is some of the best money I spend every year.
Some of the worst money I spend every year is the fecking cheque made out to HM Revenue and Customs that I signed today. I nearly shed a tear. Still I'm sure Mr Darling will spend it wisely. Mmmmm.
As for how much accountants/tax consultants cost is not the best way to judge them - it's better to look at the value...mine cost 10% of what he and his team saved me with their cunning and guile (all legit and above board of course).

use an accountant now, doing it myself just took too long......................then I set up a limited company..........................................................., which has now closed but he still does my accounts because, the IR demand I fill whatever forms are needed, because I have ticked a particular box and as such I must complete self assessment returns.......................................

Fortunately I no longer complete one after settling my differences to the tune of £4K around 5 years ago.

I submitted one for the third year running and they sent me back £400 and said I needn't do one any more.

Just paid tax bill today, gutted.
