Mushtaq Ahmed and Mark Davis proved Kent's undoing at Hove as Sussex picked up their second win of the season by an innings and 45 runs.

The visitors, who trailed by 288 on first innings, were bowled out for 243 despite 62 from Matthew Walker.

Mushtaq contributed 103 wickets to Sussex's 2003 title success but has not been the same force this summer.

He bounced back with 4-94 and Davis took 4-54 as Kent succumbed by an innings and 45 runs.

Sussex were given a boost at the start of play as Mohammed Akram had Michael Carberry caught by Richard Montgomerie for three.

But Kent made them work for their next success as Alex Loudon batted for 80 minuites to make 34 out of a stand of 63 with Walker.

He was eventually bowled by Davis and 10 runs later Mushtaq struck a crucial blow by removing Walker, with Montgomerie taking his second catch of the day.

Min Patel and Niall O'Brien did not last long, but Amjad Khan and Ian Butler offered some tail-end resistance, adding 35 before Butler was caught by James Kirtley off Mushtaq for 17.

Khan hit five fours in his 27 and was last man out when he hit a ball from Davis to Tony Cottey, whose innings of 185 had first put Sussex in control of the game.

Just back from the County Ground and a celebration drink. Best Performance at home this season. Looked a lot more like a championship side! Thought that apart from Cottey & Proir's innings that Kirtley's catch was the Champagne moment as not much else has gone right for the lad this season.
Good Ole Sussex by the Sea:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:
