If it makes anyone feel any better I'm struggling to think of any controversial managerial appointments that have been succesful. Maybe the level of expectation is too high. Here are a few:
Glenn Hoddle Southampton-Spurs: Oh dear.
Mark McGhee Reading-Leicester-Wolves. Shit at both and now making ends meet at the mighty Millwall.
Brian Little Leicester-Villa. Brian who? I hear you ask.
Alan Cork Us to Cardiff. Roaring success, not.
Kevin Keegan Fulham-England. Rubbish
Billy Dearden Mansfield-Notts C. Must keep wondering if he is still going to have a job despite being in a higher division.
In my opinion Steve may well find the promised land a much harsher place than he thinks.
