Kit Symons has appointed Stuart Gray as his assistant at Crystal Palace.
The former Southampton and Aston Villa caretaker was linked with the Wycombe manager's job before Tony Adams was appointed this week.
But he will now put aside a past rivalry to assist Symons, who played against him for Portsmouth while Gray was playing for Southampton.
Gray told the official club website: "Kit used to always kick lumps out of me. But I'm really pleased he has been given this chance with Palace and I'm delighted he has taken me on board."
Symons was left in temporary charge of the Eagles following the departure of Steve Kember this week.
