Not quite 'a bloke down the pub' but a mate who's a Crewe supporter reckons that Brighton are sniffing around Paul Edwards and that a few clubs are interested.

As he hasn't scored a goal for Crewe, he doesn't seem to be the striker we're looking for (even if this rumour is true).

Crewe manager Dario Gradi has granted Paul Edwards his wish to leave the club.

The 21-year-old striker has fallen out of favour at Gresty Road, injuries having hampered his bid to carry his impressive Academy performances into the first team.

"Paul has asked to leave and we have accepted his decision," said Gradi.

"He first came to us in pre-season asking to go, but we refused at the time because we had spent a lot of time with him trying to develop him as a player.

"At that time, we told him to come in, work hard and push himself forward.

"There comes a time when you have to stop hitting your head against a wall and we are making Paul available on a free transfer or on loan."

waste of money, there is no point of bringing someone in that is not going to improve the squad and it doesnt sound like he will

Are we sure he won't improve the squad?...

One things for sure, I don't like the fact that he has injury problems...

There was a "rumour" we were after Liverpool striker Neil Mellor before the start of the season and so were Crewe. It all appears to have gone quiet on that front. ???
