Loan striker Jonathan Obika want to start well with Albion
Albion's new hitman Jonathan Obika has refused to rule out putting down roots at The Amex.
The fit-again Spurs striker has joined the Seagulls for the tenth different loan spell of his career.
Obika, 23, is keeping his options open and would consider a permanent move if he proves to be a big success during his 93-day stay.
He told The Argus: “It is the present that counts. With all these loan spells the experience builds up into this present moment. That’s why you have to kick on.
“I would never rule out anything but I just need to focus on doing well here and starting off strong.”
Obika, poised for a place on the bench at home to Birmingham tomorrow, believes he will fit in well.
He said: “Growing up at Tottenham you come from a footballing background. I know Brighton have got the same philosophy, so it can only work well.
“At times at clubs I have been the lone striker and at times in a pair.”
Obika’s spell with Albion ends with the visit to Leicester on April 8, so he misses out on the clash at home to former loan club Charlton four days later.
Tottenham have the option of recalling him after 28 days and the Seagulls can only keep him for longer by converting the current arrangement into a standard loan for the rest of the season before the January window closes.
