Good to see him back in Brighton.
Knowing him I expect he won't be too bothered that some pikeys nicked his statue & tried to melt it down. It probably won't bother him that our council hasn't considered replacing it, or that not much effort was put into catching or dealing with the culprits.

Me though, I am bothered & he should remembered as a Brighton legend.
I bet that rusty bullet hole on the seafront would be replaced if that was nicked & vandalised.

That's on odd bet to make. Quite a lot of Hamish Black's public art has disappeared from Brighton over the past few years, not to be replaced.

We were in the same class at Varndean for Additional Maths.

Didn't he say in The Argus that he quite liked being represented by just a foot now the rest of the statue has gone?

Ovett is a true legend from the golden years of athletics and he says he is still a Brighton boy at heart. He claims to know every street in Brighton blindfolded he ran them so many times. His dad used to run a stall in the open market. Don't know if it still there tho. And my old art teacher Mr Webster sculpted his statue shame it has not been replaced.

Just out of interest, I used to be his postman when he lived in Montpelier Crescent.

The Eggs and Bacon stall. I know it's still in the family think his brother runs it now. His cousin also works there (my Auntie) plus the cheese stall that ran next to it used to be owned/run by his Uncle (my Granddad).

The market itself is very run down now, especially from when i remember it as a kid about 15 years ago.
