The CPS must be confident of a conviction this time, think of the uproar if Norris and Dobson walk free again?

With all the publicity surrounding this , one thing that's now impossible is a fair trial.

Given the crime, and the fact that they have already been tried by the media, how can a unbiased jury be sworn in?

Having said that IMHO I think they did it, so they deserve all thats coming to them.

I've got a feeling you may be right, although the only thing that isn't fair here really is what happened to the victim, and his family. They were badly let down by the police and the justice system.

It seems the main defence this time will be that the new forensic stuff is contaminated, and that may well get them off again.

They're probably going to end up with no jury, or one of like-minded racists anyway, because as you suggest most normal potential jurors, if they're honest, will say 'Yup, I think the scumbags did it'. A lot of people saw or heard about that Mail front page with their photos and 'Killers' on it.

I think they did it as well, so do most people , these are also people likely to be called as jurors.

The judge will make it clear to the jury at the start of the trial that they should forget everything they have read and heard and consider the case on the arguments put to them by the advocates.
Whatever they may know about the case, there will be such a wealth of evidence put before them in detail that any previous knowledge will be eclipsed.

I disagree , peoples minds are already made up.

Aside from the guilt of those on trial, did anyone in the police force pay with their jobs for their appallingly crass incompetence and ignorance that to date has cost SL's family their chance of justice being done and the tax payer millions of pounds?

The conventional law doesn't seem to be getting these five what they deserve. Maybe someone should go down the 'Plan B' Gene Hackman route from Mississipi Burning, put the racist scum in a room with a black heavyweight boxer who beats the living crap out of them. I'd suggest Audley - but they'd probably knock him out. So someone else.

Wouldn't Audley just patter around the room, touching their cheeks with the outside of his glove every 3 minutes, possibly act aggressively for about 3 seconds before finally coming out saying "I couldn't get anything out of them. Let me have another go in 6 months time"?

Will this be used by the defending council? If so and the judge accepts their argument, the case against them must be dismissed.
I dont know, i've got no legal training at all, the government changed the law so they could get this mob, they are not going to walk free now , dont get me wrong , i bet they are a right nasty little bunch of toerags, but they cannot receive a fair trial with all that has gone on.

It was 18 years ago. Someone could have been born after the event and still qualify as a juror.

I was 6 when the babes in the wood murders occurred, and can only really remember a few snippets of the case and the media surrounding it, even now I have to look stuff up to discuss it, and my sister was in the same class as those girls, but I honestly think I could be a fair juror if russell bishop was re-tried. I do remember him being a suspect, but I also remember him being found not guilty, and there being questions about other possible culprits, and understand the anger and the need to blame someone for a child's murder.

So, I do actually think it would be possible for them to receive a fair trial.

The only fair trial is the one that locks these tossers up and takes them off our streets.
