Having smashed the club transfer record yesterday, all us 40 somethings remember the previous record signing, Andy Ritchie in October 1980 £500,000, question is at nearly 31 years is that the longest ever unbroken record signing figure for a Football League club?

According to the argus, we eventually paid £520,000 for Bobby Zamora (sell on clause), so he would be our most expensive signing prior to Buckley.

The club may have paid £1,000,000 yesterday, but the £500,000 paid for Andy Ritchie in 1980 is worth £1,425,000 in today's money. (source for conversion factor is the national archives)
