Brighton & Hove Albion have confirmed that their manager Steve Coppell has held talks with Reading about the vacant managerial position at the Madejski Stadium.
Glenn Hoddle, Tony Adams and Coppell have emerged as the frontrunners to succeed Alan Pardew and all three have held talks with The Royals.
Brighton confirmed in a statement that Coppell was a target for Reading.
"In response to press speculation, The Seagulls can confirm that Steve Coppell has had talks with Reading football club regarding the vacant manager's position at The Madejski Stadium.
"However, Albion chairman Dick Knight is today doing everything within his power to persuade Coppell that his future lies with the Seagulls."
There will now be a nervous wait for the Brighton faithful to see whether Coppell is offered the chance to move to Berkshire.
Reports have suggested that Hoddle is first option for Reading and the First Division club will only turn to Coppell or Adams, should the former Tottenham chief reject the offer.
