From BBC:

Niemi left out of Saints friendly
Uncertainty over Southampton goalkeeper Antti Niemi's future grew on Saturday after he was left out of their pre-season friendly with Anderlecht.
The 33-year-old has been linked with a move away from St Mary's since their relegation from the Premiership in May.

"Antti has a lot of personal problems to deal with and I won't elaborate on that. The chairman is dealing with it," said Saints manager Harry Redknapp.

Saints beat Anderlecht 3-2 thanks to a hat-trick from striker Kenwyne Jones.

Could this hold up Blayney deal? also Jones has to be good bet for top scorer.

Can only be bad news for Blayney deal...

Why, oh why, are we pi$$ing about on this one... deal should have been done weeks ago... at the latest immediately after the Virgs deal...

Worthing
I had the impression that it was Soton that were holding things up. I'm sure that Harry would have very quickly answered his phone if he'd wanted to sell. As it was, things were being delayed - and perhaps now we can see why.

I'm sure there is some truth in that, but we acted with all the pace of a half-dead snail, as always... this deal should have been in the bag weeks ago, and it can't all be down to the Saints... one excuse from our club was that Southampton were playing in the West Country... FFS... last time I looked, that part of our country wasn't without road, rail or elephone... :censored:

that was the exact problem with getting the message through. Those elephones take fuckin ages to get there. they never ever forget your message though.

OOOPS!... but you know what I mean... typed in anger at possibly losing a deal for a good player... our club has fcuked-up big-time on this one, IMHO... we are consistently too slow in the transfer market...
