Soccer - indicates presence of American and/or someone with little to no interest in the game. Originally used by a toff in response to someone inquiring if they going to "rugger", another annoying word.
People who use this word - Americans, Newspaper columnists writing articles on the moral state of football.
Footy - indicates someone who likes to think they're interested in football but actually know slightly less than bugger all on the subject. Normally brought up in conversations at dinner parties, along the lines of "so do you go to the footy?". If you reply that you support Brighton, said person will always reply "I didn't know they had a team!". Twats.
People who use this word - People from Surrey who support Man Utd/Arsenal, students in a pub watching an England game on the big screen.
