the argus sells its main title and the sports argus(NOW 50p)on the back of the albion and yet what do they put back into our club?
of all the reasons people buy our local paper be it jobs, property supplement, cars, entertainment or local news the biggest single group the argus targets is US.WE BUY MORE PAPERS THAN ANY OTHER GROUP(b.t.w. did i mention the sports argus is now 50p).
AND WHAT SUPPORT DO THEY GIVE THE ALBION?
they dont sponser games
they are not sponsering any of the team kits
no they aint paying for for either matchball
they aint paying for the chance to name the MAN OF THE MATCH
not even in the friends of the albion section of yesterdays programe

come on you tight fisted barstards you could sell even more if you sponsored a game and made the seats available to win by a token collecting mail in

Personally I think it's pretty damn AWESOME to have the pink paper in the offie ninety minutes after the final whistle. 50p seems not a bad deal if you stop and think about the logistics behind making it happen. Time and a half for the journos, sub-eds & van-drivers apart from anything else. I mean, it's not like you'd NOT buy it if your just back from the game, sitting in a pub a hundred metres from point of sale and want to know the updated league tables, eight pages of dedicated Albion news & the scorers and attendence in, say, the Conference South game between Lewes and Thurrock (1-1, Newman 88, Buffong 69, Att. 481 seeing as how you asked). Plus a shitload of pages of Park football that you skip past unless you actually happen to play in Lewes League division 3 and are keeping a bit of a sad scrapbook.

Agree that the tightwads at the Argus could sponsor the odd match tho...

You might think it is "Awsome". But what do you really get as a match report.

A whole page for the first half and a couple of sentances for the second half. The report is virtually written at half-time with the headline and final few sentances/summing up completed within five minutes of the final whistle.

You lot have no comprehension of how good the Argus is as local papers go.

Kildare has three newspapers - the colour, broadsheet, twice weekly Nationalist, the colour, broadsheet, twice weekly Leader, and the black and red, tabloid, weekly Liffey Champion

Only the latter covers the north of the county (which has the highest population). Its 48 pages, costs E1.65 and is CRAP.

Theres 80K people in its catchment area....

In comparison to the crud here, the Argus is a wonderful paper.

The match report is shit but the rest of the paper is good, especially the non league bit.

The Argus purchase perimeter sponsorship, purchase 4 season ticket/hospitality seats, per match, per season for clients and afford thousands of column inches of coverage as well as championing campaigns and giving massive publicity.

I think the Argus do very well for the club and vice versa.

Oh, and NONE of the papers here give a damn about our local Eircom League team, who are actually damn good, but virtually ignored

(They're around L2 level in the UK)

I normally get the sports argus. The middle of the paper has plenty of coverage of the Albion. The club needs a paper like this.

And what a f***ing HASH of things they made in 95 when they exposed the selling of The Goldstone and the proposed ground share with Portsmouth.

Not to mention that absolute FAILURE of a campaign to 'Bring Home the Albion'.

Totally USELESS, I agree.

aint complaining about the coverage, after all no news no paper no sales.that isnt a dig but an attempt to state the facts.it is a newspaper and it sells because (AND IN LARGER NUMBERS)the ALBION IS THE NEWS WE REALLY CARE ABOUT.

so.....argus...give us some thing to prove you care

Not exactly. Just quite enjoy strolling from the Brewery Tap to Unwins Food & Wine at 6.15 after home games, shelling out me 50p for the pink 'un, then strolling back to the Brewery Tap to inwardly digest the details of Palace's latest thrashing, the Albion's new League placing and the racing results. Perfectly reasonable behaviour INNIT

My good man, this is Exactly the way to spend a Saturday afternoon (after the game).

Though personally I should take in the Evening Star, rather than the Brewery Tap. And there we have it, simply magic.

- Exposed and publicised the Archerlotti's activities many years before most people had access to email and the Internet

- Campaigned to Bring Home the Albion

- Campaigned for Falmer

- Given the club hundreds of thousands of pounds (at least) of free advertising space, including the recent cash appeal publicity and payment form.

The Argus is not the publicity arm of the club, but you would notice the difference if it disappeared or changed tack and campaigned against Falmer etc.
All true. I've moaned about the apparently unedited anti-Falmer 'news' stories that have appeared (NIMBY views presented as facts) but if the Argus had adopted a proactively anti-Albion view we could have been finished as a football club long before this. (The letters page as has been pointed out is NOT the opinion of the Argus).

Still, not surprising really. The Argus is integeral part of Brighton and it intuitively recognises the other intergral parts; Albion, West Pier, Royal Pavillion etc. When it starts campaigning for the clocktower to be pulled down because it represents a Victorian phallic symbol of male oppression then we'll know it's been taken over completely by outsiders.

still dosn't deal with my question.i dont seek to critisise the commitment to our cause, but the argus has a vested interest in getting us to buy the titles.if it felt it would sell more papers it would side against us.simple statement of the facts.

we are the chief target audience for the argus.we are the group that buy most copies.we buy them for albion related stories not parking issues from seaford or a dead cat in fishersgate.

how about a bit of cash
sponser a game
buy a match ball
be a kit sponser
