According to this...

Port Vale boss Brian Horton admitted his team deserved to lose in the LDV Trophy to Conference side Scarborough.

Vale, LDV winners in 2001, succumbed to the shock of the night at the McCain Stadium, despite leading early on through Stephen McPhee's goal.

"It is not good enough to lose to Scarborough," Horton told the Stoke Sentinel newspaper.

"But if we don't take chances we won't win any game. We had enough chances to win two games."


Horton fielded a strong side but did leave out captain Sam Collins and Austrian international Andreas Lipa.

"Sam and Andreas might have played but had slight knocks and there was no way I was risking that," Horton added.

... Vale played their best side possible barring injuries and still lost?
