You know much about it? We are renting this house and it already has a satellite dish as the previous tenants had Sky. Does freesat run off the same satellite as Sky?

When we gave up Sky, years ago now, we just connected the satellite cable to a Humax box and after set up it worked perfectly, and has done since. So I would guess yes, in answer to your question.

Edit, quick google seems to suggest it may not work if the dish has a SkyQ LNB

If the dish is old it will be the traditional band and will work with all Freesat boxes.

Absolutely if the dish is relatively new it will be the wideband type and will need a compatible box. Sky boxes can also be used for free without a viewing card to watch the Freesat channels.
