Saw this on Sky sports this morning, they reckon it's gonna be Mghee.

see below
Former Millwall boss Mark McGhee has become favourite to land the vacant manager's post at Division Two side Brighton & Hove Albion.
Seagulls chairman Dick Knight revealed last week that he would make a managerial appointment very soon following the departure of Steve Coppell to First Division club Reading.

McGhee, who was surprisingly sacked by The Lions two weeks ago, could be in line to land the Withdean Stadium post, as Knight is keen not to pay compensation to another club for a new manager.

Torquay United manager Leroy Rosenior and Oldham Athletic boss Iain Dowie have had talks with the South Coast club but Knight may opt for a free agent alternative, with McGhee seemingly in the driver's seat.

Former Cheltenham Town and Stoke City boss Steve Cotterill has also been mentioned with the job and an appointment is expected from the club in the coming week.

At least Mark McGhee won't promise to be anything other than a complete mercenary if he does a decent job. None of that Mr Loyal With Principles bollocks that we thought we were getting with the current Reading manager.

I for one, would think he is a better appointment that Leroy, Ok he may leave, but then so may Leroy. McGhee has experience at the highest level and will have many contacts, he has proven he can do well with not much money, bring him in.

McGhee would be fine by me. If he uses us to further his career, then we will have used him to help the club. Next decent manager comes in and the cycle continues.

It's not going to be Mark McGhee, it'll be Leroy Rosenior - I read it on North Stand Polls.

Mark Mcghee. There is a god after all. Basically if it ain't Mcghee it sure as hell better be Desmond Douglas and none of the other untried/untested 'new breed' of Dowie's or Rosenior's.

SSN was just as certain that it was LR on Saturday, wish they'd make their minds up so DK can get on an appoint who they think best!

Why do you all have a problem with a manager using us to better their career?

However you look at it at the moment we are hardly top of the career ladder are we. So if we don't want people who are wanting better what does that leave us with?

I hope, whoever gets the job, wants better and part of the way they take us with them. As did MA, as did SC and until we get a stable permanent stadium with a big crowd that is the way it shall be.

Because Steve Coppell in particular didn't exactly do his time here did he? He failed to prevent relegation and then walked out after a dozen games in the new season for the first improved job offer that came along, and that was hardly a million times better. That is a piss poor way to conduct yourself, especially if the rumours of him using us as a lever to haggle for higher wages are to be believed. Integrity and honour my arse. Go f*ck yourself Coppell.

I'll forgive Micky Adams for openly making himself available to Southampton in the close season (and then getting stroppy after being overlooked) simply because of the legacy he left. He totally rebuilt that side, he got us promotion and laid the foundations for another. He's also had nothing but good words to say about the club since he left and from a personal point of view, I was impressed with the way he conducted himself after matches - in particluar making himself available to NSC sponsors for hours after the game. Peter Taylor by comparison, couldn't have given a toss.

The main sticking point at the moment seems to be the clause McGhee is demanding lin the contract allowing him to talk to any club in the Premier League, Division One, SPL, Serie A, La Liga, MLS, NAFL, NFL, NBA, LoW once a run of two straight victories is achieved.

Simster I was thinking more in the future than the past, any manager that comes in needs to want to better themselves and lead us on to a better place than we are in now. The comment was aimed at those who were saying the manager will just leave us when another offer comes along. It happens everywhere, but hopefully when they do move on they move somewhere that can do you a favour in progressing to the future. (Not really been the case for us, Leicester over paid useless footballers we can't afford, Reading the Brighton snatch squad.)

Yes SC left early, i was surprised he left at all as I thought he was past all that nonsense. But to say we are not in a better place is wrong. He nearly got us out, if it was not for one of the most negative games of football i have ever seen when SW, needing a win to have a chance of staying up, came to our place and played for a draw.

We were, when he left, top of the league you can't ask more than that, can you?

Just checked out his managerial history, and it doesn't look that mercenary. Apart from Leicester (which i reckon is the period from which we've got our view of him) he has stayed for at least 3 years at each club.

I'd easily settle for a manager to be here for three years solid. That hasn't happened since Barry Lloyd (and before that Alan Mullery)!

So what's Royal Ali on about?
I reckon three and a half years in Reading is long enough-you don't get sentenced to that for manslaughter FFS:lolol:

Good news if it's true. For me McGhee really stounds out among those on the shortlist. Simster - agree with you 100% about Adams. Brian - agree with you 100% about Reading :lolol:
