Shops opening on Christmas day

In France at the moment and Im shocked at how many shops etc are open even places like Mcdoanlds and Starbucks - Also the Metro system is working. Do you think this would ever happen in the UK, with all the different cultures we have in the UK now I dont think it will b to much longer.

When I was in Lille all the shops were shut on a Sunday.

I hope that it doesnt because that would mean the UK needs buses then I will have to work and that just is NOT on!
