Come on, your just being facetious, you know he was probably the only goal threat last night on the pitch for us.
Oh no, that I totally get. The corner taking however would then just see him do the exact same thing all of our corner takers do, lower whip that won't get past the first man.

They all seem to be low and whipped, which is why they never go past the first man. Moder is exceptional on set pieces, yet was doing the exact same things Gross hand march have been doing. This is tactical. Unfortunately its very easy to defend against, as is our general play.

Given the size of Wolves' defenders and the fact Dan Burn was our only aerial threat (and he's not the best in the air despite his size), probably made sense last night. Agree it failed abysmally but you can see why they weren't floating them in.

Sorry mate, but Moder is not exceptional at set pieces. (well not in a positive sense anyway)

is it just me or have we become remarkably shitter at set pieces in recent weeks? yes we were exceptionally bad tonight, moder in particular, but he's someone who was a set piece specialist at his previous club and internationally. so what's happening? over the last 2 months or so nobody seems capable of any decent dead ball delivery whatsoever.

You are correct.

We used to , at least, get the ball to Burn, Dunk or Webster to head over the bar or straight to the goalie.
Now we don't even clear the first defender. :lolol::lolol:

If March takes another free kick I’m gonna kick next doors dog.

I actually thought his freekick, trying to deflect it off the Wolves defenders and in, was the most likely to end in a goal last night.
I assumed it was deliberate and summed up our attacking threat.

Watch him for Poland or his previous club. He is very good. As is Gross. Its what's being asked that is terrible.

If you seriously think they are being asked to not get it past the first defender... go see the doctor.

I'm not saying that for **** sake, I'm saying they're being asked for the cross to be lower and whipped, which is very easy to be defended against.

I've seen him for Poland and I just don't agree. I've only ever seen him deliver poor ball for them and poor balls for us. We need better

Even if the delivery had been good our diddy strike force (plus Dan “can’t head” burn) wouldn’t have got past coady and co anyway.

Yes.
In my view, we need to distinguish between this season and last night.
Last night, we had next to no chance of scoring because we had a team of ewoks and a giant who can't head the ball. We also inexplicably had our next tallest player taking the set pieces, and badly. That's why mixing it up yesterday wasn't the worst idea: Lamptey had a decent stab.
This season, we've been poor overall. IIRC, Duffy (vs Watford) and Welbeck (vs Leicester) are our only two goals. Gross' delivery has subsided, the heading hasn't been brilliant, the variety has been lacking. Tross' ball for Welbeck was a delight, and I can't remember too many other good ones this season, yet he's barely taken one subsequently.
The team that has scored the most from set pieces is West Ham. Unlike us and most other teams, the inswinger is their default set piece (or corner at least). They've got several tall players who are also good in the air and, alongside excellent delivery, they collectively cause havoc in the opposition six yard area.
In terms of previous seasons, our set piece return has been pretty good, largely as a result of the attributes of Gross, Dunk and Duffy (and, when he was in his pomp, Murray).

We seem to have plenty pf players who can loft the ball over an eight feet high crossbar from three yards. It should not, therefore, be difficult to get them to take the corners. All they would have to do is loft the ball over the nearest opponent, who has to be ten yards away and stands less tall than the height of a crossbar.

There was a spell (I think last season) where we seemed to take every corner short, which was very baffling and frustrating seeing as we had 3 CB's on the pitch most of the time.

Last night would have been the time to use short corners, seeing as we only had Dan 'Not Very Good at Heading' Burn as a target.

I seriously believe that I, as a hobbling, balding, nearly sixty year-old, could have taken better corners than those we saw last night.

May I say that it is not just taking corners that are a problem but defending them too. We seem to have three players strung out in a line, what Warren on radio calls a bus queue, and nobody on the near or far post to help the keeper.
We have conceded too many from corners or play resulting from a failure to clear …..
