I don't really see the point. Are we going to have a minutes silence every year on 9/11 ?

Was thinking the same, although thought it may have seemed a bit in-considerate with regards to Robert Eaton.

I think we should, because of Robert Eaton. Especially as it's on a matchday. Maybe for the last time!

I wouldn't expect other matches to keep observing the silence.

I think that that moment in history should be remembered with at least one minute's silence on the anniversary. It was a despicable act of cowardice that ended the lives of so many-including one of the Albion family and it should be observed with the respect that it deserves. After all, we regularly observe a minute's silence when any of the royal parasites pop their clogs and 9/11 is much more significant in human terms.

Just my personal opinion.

Apart from Remembrance Sunday, commemorations of a death usually only have a minutes silence following the death of someone and then the first anniversary.

I can understand people wanting a minutes silence tomorrow at a match and if it had been at Withdean it would probably have happened.

I don't think a lot of the Watford fans would understand. How many people really read the programme or listen to the tannoy announcements.

Of course I have no objections if there is to be a minutes silence held tomorrow to mark the 3rd anniversary of 9/11. But I also think we can all quietly reflect on 9/11 in our own ways whenever we like, and remember those who lost their lives that day.

Maybe Buzza has it right - as its a match day and Albion fans will be together, it would be appropriate to hold a minutes silence in memory of the one of our own who we lost that day.

But I'm not sure about continuing and making it an annual event - where do you draw the line ? The REMF has left a fantastic legacy, Robert Eaton will not be forgotton. An annual minutes silence, in my opinion, should not be necessary.

Whilst we are talking about minute's silences.

I think we should have a minute's silence for the poor children massacred by those :censored: terrorists last week!

An act that was (imho) at least as despicable as 9/11, if not more.

I'm not advocating two silences. We could double up for both attrocities.

(apologies if this has already been mentioned on another thread)

Maybe we should all just collect our thoughts around 3 o'clock as a personal tribute

That would be difficult at kick off time. It is likely to be very noisy.

You are probably right but I will definitely find a time at some point to recollect.

Probably for Brighton fans the moment would be when the flag passes over our heads.

Maybe some will take inspiration when that happens I know the right moment will come for me.

No, because that would be too much like hard work, wouldn't it?

Or even have a "Remember two atrocities, get the third one free" style rememberance fest. Shall we chuck in Holly and Jessica or will it be Sarah Payne?

Drop Kick Let's not have a play on words!

I'm suggesting that we should observe a silence for the dreadful scenes in Russia last week and in New York Three years ago!

Do you really think that the authorities would ever say at a football match "Ok after a minutes silence, we'll have another one for ....."

You know what I meant. I believe we should have a minute's silence for both very sad events. I was being genuine!!

I have to say that what an extremely poor low shot in very poor taste!!!

Yes, the events on 11/09/01 and last weekend in Beslan were terrible and tragic wastes of life. Yes, we could remember those people but I'd like to bet that Beslan will be forgotten by the majority of the population in a few months so let's not cheapen their lives by pretending to care. Maybe my post was in poor taste and I'm not singling you or your opinions out but I find public grieving to be in very poor taste. Perhaps it's my fault for being cold and detached from emotion but you have to agree that this country's eagerness to jump on the next Grief Train that passes through Empty Life Station is just a little suspect. Especially when there'll be another one next week that we can all queue up to buy tickets for.

I very much doubt that there will be too many silences across the Union. Sadly many seem to have forgotten 9/11 over there, they're more concerned with the possibility of having to pay more taxes.
