Season vids and club marketing

I am not the type of supporter wishing to have a go at the club without due cause but the latest season vid/dvd has got me thinking. When we returned to Withdean I always thought the vids were quite a comprehensive account of the season, encompassing goals, saves, interviews, crowd shots etc. However, it seems to me that the season vids are getting shorter and less comprehensive. I have yet to see last season's but I'm not overly keen on the lack of content from the majority of the season. Furthermore, surely the cost of making a 90/100 minute film, rather than hour long is not significantly different when you already own the rights to the footage? The price of vid seems rather extortionate when about 60-70% of coverage is playoffs and film length is not substantial.

It's been said many times before, but when you consider DK has background in marketing I do feel our club marketing is still not tapping anywhere near the full potential. The lack of understanding regarding demand for DVD over VHS in 2004 is surely a prime example. The lack of a comprehensive centenary/history DVD is another. Speaking of which, did the club ever explain why this never materialised - I've been waiting years to get my hands on this type of historical footage.

Furthermore, with the mobile club shop making appearances at Withdean, how about it regularly tour the towns of Sussex, for the out-of-towners to gain easy access to merchandise. Advertise its whereabouts on the website and surely it would pay off as an exercise.

Dick Knight worked in advertising, not marketing (or PR).

We've had part 1 of the three-part centenary (ie, 1901-2001) video, but not parts 2 and 3. Part 2 will probably be available just after Christmas, but which Christmas is anyone's guess. Go easy on the club - they've only had three-and-a-half years to finish it and these things obviously take longer than that.

Oh yeah, and just that trifling matter of the public enquiry for the new stadium :jester:

Producing a video should not take three and a half years, public inquiry or no public inquiry. It's a joke.

Depends how much work the video prod guy has on his plate besides this though, I think?

It would have been nice to have all 3 parts come out at the same time, but there seems no absolute necessity for that to happen.

It's definitely making some progress though, as they borrowed a few rare-ish vids I've got only a few months ago for research purposes.

The research that goes into a project like this must be massive.

It says it all that Insider has avoided answering this question so far.

I heard that they were having problems in releasing some of the footage they want too as different TV companies own the rights as do some other football clubs.......

Could be wrong:nono:

That doesn't surprise me. Clip fees are massive, it's what my better half does for a living.

Very true LI. Witness the fuss made over the cost of Jonny Wilkinson's drop-goal for the endless, glorious re-runs everybody wanted to show
