Just noticed that there's an article, "It's All Gone Quiet Over Here" on View from the Net, asking why our fabled fantastic away support dribbles to nothing at Withdean. It's at http://www.viewfromthenet.com.

So, anyone else want to explain it? And can we come up with a fix by tomorrow night, before Mark McGhee starts pining for the Den?

Explain?

No roof - the songs get lost in the air.

The seats - You can't really sing sitting down.
You can't sit next to like minded singers so can't get anything going.

The lack of music evens adds to it, no atmosphere is created.

f*** this i can't be arsed. I don't know why, there are too many factors to consider.

We make more noise away than at home because we don't have to behave and we can sit with mates.

i think also that with away trips is more of a whole day thing so you're more up for it as apposed to home games

Withdean is better than Priestfield. Never forget that place.

Dunno, Rose. But if you're female, I think I love you. How about it, me and you?

Well, just a quickie then.

Yes, the North Stand was always great, wasn't it... but here's someone who saw it differently:-

"He maintained that the club could still achieve promotion, but wanted the crowd to get behind the players. "They don't chant and cheer as they used to. I haven't heard the Seagulls roar for a long time, not even when we scored five goals against Preston".

He advanced the point of view that people in Albion's catchment area tended to be too conservative and were self-conscious about making themselves heard. "There have been times when you could hear a pin drop and we were playing well. The last four years has been the most successful in the club's history. Before that they had done next to nothing. Now this club is really established, but we want it to go much further". What also baffled him was the North Stand going so quiet. This is the traditional popular end and the source of the Goldstone choir.

But the 16,691 who turned up for the Orient game had little to shout about... "

This was on 2 December 1978. The speaker? Alan Mullery.

Because people are apparently not allowed to sing songs about our players, or encourage others to join in.

Juan Albion, I am flattered by your attention and invitation. So you are into "quickies" are you? Does it follow you are a quick-fix merchant then? Love 'em and leave 'em? Well, young man, I'm in it for the long term.

Why don't you forget about your fantasies of a quickie with me and put all your energies into getting behind the team tonight.

They need you more than I need you...
