I assume this means the Market Porter??? Apologies if already posted.

Borough market is London's oldest market. It was established on the south bank of the Thames when the Romans build the first London Bridge and people have been trading on this site for over 2000 years. For any of you that haven't been, it's a beautiful undercover food market and a truly wonderful part of London's history http://www.boroughmarket.org.uk/index.php.

Anyway, a bright spark has decided to run a railway line through the roof of the market, which will also involve knocking down 23 of the beautiful listed and unlisted buildings in the closely surrounding area. They already have planning permission, but are waiting funding and there is a strong local campaign to put a stop to it.

If, like me, you know and love the market in its present state, please sign the petition to prevent this from happening.
The plans, photographs and the petition are on the following site: http://www.sabmac.co.uk

Unfortunately not a lot of people are aware of it so please sign it and forward it on to anyone else you know who loves this great bit of London heritage.

Sorry but, nice though the Market Porter is, "Thameslink 2000" is more important. They can always build another pub.

I wouldn't say SAFE. I'd be careful, if I were you...

That depends entirely on one's point of view. Personally, I value an historic 250 year old market and area of London somewhat more than a viaduct.

First dismissing the Seagulls Party out of hand, then cheering at the potential destruction of an excellent institution. Are you David Bellotti in disguise or something?

Oh, the market is older than that - it dates back to the early Middle Ages. It once encroached on the approach to London Bridge (when it was the Only Bridge In London) so they've had to trim it back before. As far as I'm aware, they're not getting rid of it altogether.

But to have the entire southeast England's train lines which serve the world's preeminent (dogfood-eating) financial capital shoehorned into one line in each direction for the sake of a pub and half a market as at present is a bit crap.

The George across the road and down that little cobbled lane must rate as one of Londinium's oldest if not most expensive boozers.

shut up, i wasnt CHEERING at the potential of the destruction of the pub, i just dont have an opinion on the pub and it bores me when everyone goes on about it when really its nothing special. As for the Seagulls Party...
