From yesterdays programme:

"...and the idiots who saw fit to abuse a badly injured Crewe player, think it's clever.

It's not clever. It's nasty, offensive and pathetic. And it's totally unacceptable to the club, and to 99% of Albion fans"

Seems a bit harsh to include those 2 in a strongly worded statement about badly behaved supporters. I think we've all had a go at various players who we've taken a dislike to. I seem to remember calling Scott McGleish a c**t on a number of occasions. A mate of mine who supports Leicester once told Dennis Wise that he hoped he'd end up in a wheelchair. I thought yesterday was an anti-racist day? Where does someone saying "I hope you never play again" fit into that?

Those 2 get slung out of a ground, now face a ban from the Albion and get a bollocking in the programme. Yet that fella who was apparantly shouting racist abuse (and left at half-time it seems, what an utter :jester: ) got away with nothing. I suppose it's easier to pick on 2 guys who move from their seats than it is to confront and shame a knuckle scraping neanderthal.

The guys weren't too clecver bragging about it on the net afterwards were they, the club now know the culprits and will ban them accordingly.

Has anyone read a bragging from either of these two? Have they been threatened with a ban?

Is there any proof (other than gossip) that it was these two?

An awful lot of assumptions going on here.

There was no bragging from them at all. Steve simply admitted it. Most of us saw them removed by the polis.
Think it was an over-reaction by the OB.
I have loads of sympathy for Safeway and Chappers ... espesh in the light of the unpunished spitting and racism by other so called fans.

That isn't bragging, the people haven't been named and there is nothing about a letter banning them having been issued.

As said it was a heat of the moment thing and something most of us have been guilty of thinking if not saying out loud.

AFAIR if someone has been removed by the police from a football ground the club automatically consider a ban.

If someone is prosecuted I think the ban is automatic (although not certain on that or anything else for that matter been up since 4am).

Does not take a lot to get banned these day's.

A bloke known as "Belly" to West Brom fans was banned becasue he stood up to acknowledge the chants of Belly from the crowd.

f*** me.

is football gonna join the PC revolution now then??

who hasn't shouted something similar at an opposition player in the heat of the moment.

disgraceful to include it in the programme alongside a piece on racism.

even more so when the police/stewards at crewe didn't give a toss about some guy racially abusing the ref.

I should get baned from the ground on a weekly basis for my social class five thoughts alone, let alone what I actually say.

If the two concerned get any punishment I for one will be behind them, and let the club know my feelings.

I'm sorry Yorkie your matter-of-factness is going to be found wanting here, I feel.

I have written many letters defending those turfed out of grounds before. The fact is - if you are asked/told to leave an away ground the Albion will know about it sooner rather than later. And you will be asked/told not to attend home games for a period of time.

Our fellas Chappers and Safeway are highly likely to find themselves affected.

I was wondering how it actually worked. Did the police take their names and addresses at the time?

Out of order on Chappers and Safeway. I had better curb my behaviour in H block or I could follow them !.

Most people around me use a lot of shall we say industrial language, there are kids around but its water off a ducks back. Its part and parcel of being a football fan and getting your chance to vent our spleen for 90 minutes after a week if being responsible human beings at work and minding your p's and q's.

I would never shout rascist abuse or say the C word but pretty much everything else in my verbal repetoire is fair game to the ref, linesman and opposition if they piss me off.

Didn't Trigger get a two match ban for venting his anger at an advertising hoarding ?

It's typical though isn't it? Pick on Safeway and Chappers: "Look, look we're clamping down on hooligans and racism by throwing these two desperados out for yelling abuse at an opposition player (like none of us have done it before)". But the main villian was allowed to shout REALLY offensive stuff because the Police and Stewards were scared of him.

I think the club got this one wrong. Its called passion, if it was rascism or repeated use of the C word fair play bit I think this guys are in no way rascist and I can't imagine them saying that.

We need more people with a bit of passion in their bellies at the home games especially as we have more than enough people with rugs over knees, flask of coffee and cucumber sandwiches for half time who do not utter a single word of encouragement to the team for the whole 90 minutes already at Withdean.

Totally agree. If they are banned I can feel an NSC campaign coming on .....

Blimey, we're going back 2 years here but yes, i was down the front as i was on my way to the loo and Gary Hart got sent off just at that moment for a nothing challenge on a Wimbledon player so i called the ref a f***ing wanker whilst brushing an advertising board with my foot, before being 'gently' escorted out by 7, yes 7 stewards, police then took my details, didn't hear nothing for 3 months but then a letter arrived with 2 game ban.
