Footballer Roy Keane has been charged with assault and criminal damage, say police.

The charges are believed to relate to an incident on Hale golf course on 4 September 2004.

The Manchester United captain, from Hale near Altrincham, is due to appear at Trafford Magistrates on Thursday.

He is charged with a public order offence, criminal damage and assault, a spokesman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed.

The 33-year-old Irish international went to Stretford Police Station with his solicitor and was charged with the offences on Tuesday.

The captain played in Monday night's victory match with Liverpool in the Premier League at Old Trafford

Apparently he grabbed this 16 year old kid by the collar and broke his neck-chain. Probably some little burberry-capped chav twat gobbing off.

I'm no fan of Roy Keane, but I can't entirely blame him for wanting to kick the shit out of some obnoxious, starstruck little shit who was probably after some bragging rights for giving Keane some grief. The fact that he's gone bleating to a solicitor speaks volumes. Next up he'll sell the story of the "horror attack" to the tabloids I suppose.

Keane, again, is a fool for reacting. But no-one is going to come out of this with much credit.

'have to say Easy, you turned a 'probably' into an actual rather quickly there. Do you know the details? Maybe the lad is a decent fellow who was a golfing with his girl and Keane insisted on 'playing through', and when the lad said "I'd rather not" Keane got wobbly and said "you English scum, I'm gonna do you and your angelic little lass - I hate all English who don't do what I want"

A more likely scenario, so I'll say "that's right, it happened like that, lock the Irish bigot up and throw the key away" :clap:

What can I say ? I like making assumptions.
I doubt whether Keane takes his dog with him when he's playing golf though. That just wouldn't be cricket.

lol, but there's room for a dog in my script!;
Keane let his vicious pitbull shit on the green just as the lad's gran was about to putt, and snorted "have that, you English scum golfers" to which the lad responded "do you have a poop-scooper, I don't mind cleaning it up to keep the peace here", after which Keane grabbed the youngster and threatened to set the seething snarling 125 pound animal on his granma.

Lock him away for good! :flameboun

Suppose this means that his labrador will be brought out for walks now. Bet he hasn't been seen in public since the World Cup
