Ronny 2 Jimmy 0 - both had their chances in the 2nd frame... but Ronny cleaned up with a fluent 79 break.

Spoke too soon... that was an 'easy ball'...

I'd love to see Jimmy turn back the clock here.

Is this the re-incarnation of the old and much loved Grand Prix tournament??

YES! A great break of 72 and counting from Jimmy...

Indeed... it's Barry Hearn's baby... best of 5 format right up to the final which is best of 9... music between frames etc...

Oddly, no shot clock though.

BIG prize money... over half a million... with £100,000 to the winner.

Sort of Twenty20 snooker.

ooh... he's missed a tough one into the middle...

and Ronny is in prime position to finish it off with 7 reds on the table.

The interview with Ronny after the match was fantastic.

I love his respect for Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry and Jimmy White.

I'm sorry but I'm a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to snooker, just let the quality of the players shine through. Just seen some of the walk-ons and there are some quality tunes mind:

Graeme Dott - Stevie Wonder, Superstition
Neil Robertson - Men at Work, Down Under
Ali Carter - Elvis/JLX, A little less conversation
Thepchaiya Un-Nooh - Frakie goes to Hollywood, Two Tribes
Stephen Maguire - Ram Jam, Black Betty
Stuart Pettman - Faithless , Insomnia
Steve Davis - Noserati, Art 2070
Peter Ebdon - The Real Thing, Can you feel the force?
Shaun Murphy - Queen, It's a kinda magic
Dave Harold - Florence and the Machine, You've got the love
Stephen Hendry - U2, Even Better Than The Real Thing
Bjorn Haneveer - The George Baker Selection, Little Green Bag
Mark Williams - Kasabian, Club Foot
Igor Figueiredo - Michael Jackson, Billie Jean
Ding Junhui - Lady Gaga, Poker Face
Adrian Gunnell - Elbow, Grounds For Divorce
Jimmy White - Dire Straits, Money For Nothing
Paul Davison - Status Quo, Rocking All Over The World
Mark Selby - Kasabian, Underdog
Barry Hawkins - Blur, Song 2

Anyone could win this tournament. Need a bit of luck with the draw though. I got 40/1 on Ricky Walden last weekend and reckon they'll be a surprise winner with the format.

Particularly the ones highlighted.

Poker face though Junhui? You can do better than that!
