While it is obviously mental money on offer in China (at least for a certain type of player), there is a lot of hypocritical bollocks spouted on this subject by those connected to the Premier League.

Do they REALLY think it is the status of English football that has attracted foreigners here for 20-plus years? Of course it wasn't. For much of that period the PL Clubs had the most money, and that's why the players came for huge wages.

So it is a bit rich for everyone to start whining now it is another country that has the whip hand.

Having been to Shanghai I can't see why you wouldn't go there if it meant being set up for life (or indeed several lives). The football is improving at both club and national level, the city is fantastic, and the lifestyle unbelievable for someone on that money. I could never understand why English players wouldn't try overseas for LESS money for the life experience, so if you can do both that and earn more, why not?

The main problem and a huge concern in the past for people like Drogba and Anelka, was actually getting paid correctly and on time, plus match-fixing was rife. But if they have got that sorted I don't see the problem.

There will always be players who want to play in the most competitive league, but it's not like they are paupers over here FFS. You are talking about players on £5-10million a year, who could earn double that in China. That's a pretty relative comparison given what most people earn.

Bloke's 31, going on 32. Give it another two years playing at the top level in Europe and he can go to China for double what they're offering now. Suddenly USA option is looking like the poor relation for ageing footballers seeking a last pay day. Shame that fat slug Rooney never kept himself in shape or he could have done similar.

Certainly there's humungous amounts of Chinese money sloshing around, same as there is Russian money. As always, it's who you know, and f*ck all of it trickles down to the ordinary citizen. Bit like the UK really.

Quite agree, but waiting for some of the regulars on here who say, "if I was paid 10 x my current salary to move to a different company, you wouldn't see me for dust!"
