Talking with fellow brighton fan and we were talking bout the goalkeepers and couldnt recall when roberts was last beaten from distance, it seems that kuipers tends to get beaten a fair few times from long range in a season while roberts doesnt

IMHO when Roberts is fit he gets the Keeper slot.

Far more confidence in the area and distribution miles better.

I agree Beach Hut....kuipers probably a better shot stopper but feel that roberts has more control of the back four and they have a bit more confidence in him.....however if kuipers continues to play like he is it will take a brave man to drop him

Kuipers is quality. He doesn't drop crosses. He doesn't hoof the ball out of play when he doesn't need to. He holds on to stinging long-range shots where Roberts spills them. He is at one with his defence. Cullip CLEARLY prefers playing in front of Kuipers instead of Roberts. The body language says it all.

Roberts ought to be eternally grateful that some people consider him in the same league as FDM - because basically his handle of 'CoCo' is well deserved.

I certainly dont think their in the same league, Roberts is different class to Kuipers. Kuipers has NO communication with his defence, I cant talk for yesterdays game as I wasnt there, but on Tuesday near the end there was a through ball which should have been easily dealt with by either keeper of defender (harding I think), but there was no communication and it ended up nearly being a right f*** up with Kuipers having to barge thr Rovers Striker off the ball after dribbling it out. Had this have been Roberts, Harding would of had a shout to either leave it, knock it back home or hoof it. Kuipers said..........nothing.

Roberts is Brighton's No.1.

roberts is the better keeper. and as for kuipers holding on to shots from long range - he didn't hold onto anything yesterday, all his saves were with his feet - although that was probably his best game so far this season, ill be more happy when roberts is back

after that dribble on tuesday as well, lets start calling michel coco. what was he thinking?

Difference is Roberts would have lost the ball.

Jeez, Scotty, what game were you watching yesterday? Kuipers was outstanding. Saved from that fella from 18 inches away. Punched corners clear where their keeper just moaned when we scored our goal. Came for corners cleanly and confidently, he never missed anything. This season Michel has caught everything - except that f*** up at Wigan last week.

I do not have - and have never had - the same confidence in Roberts that I have in Kuipers. I repeat - Danny Cullip prefers to play in front of Kuipers. And that's not conjecture...

Don't get me wrong, Roberts is satisfactory, but just not in the same class as FDM.

the reason kuipers doesnt drop many long range shots is because nmost of them are in the back of the net

Cullip prefers playing in front of FDM?

Not as I see it! When Roberts had a long run in the side last year, you could see the defence grow more confident, because they know Roberts doesn´t spill shots, and is always going to be straight off his line to avert danger. With Roberts acting as more of a sweeper then Kuipers, as a good keeper should, the defence could push up and worry less about balls behind them. Part of our problem in recent years has been in defending too deep when we are leading, and Roberts helps this.

Ben Roberts number 1!

Roberts is the better of two fine keepers IMO. He is far better at dealing with crosses and communicating with the defence. Kuipers is a phenomenal shot-stopper, but there is more than that to being a keeper

Roberts' performances last season were far better than those of FDM. There were a few Coco specials, but these were outnumbered by some sensational saves and excellent communication and distribution.

His biggest problem is that he is injury prone.

Roberts - for commands his area, read "comes off his line too often, and sometimes gets away with it, sometimes doesn't"... FDM for me... better shot stopper, better decisions on when to come off of his line...

Let's be honest tho'... they are BOTH good keepers, and we are very lucky to have them...

Biggest problem is that Roberts is always injured. This is fact - the run at the end of last season was the longest continuous spell he has spent playing first team football.

FDM was fine until he picked up the knock last season and then played in the FA Cup when he should have been rested. Obviously the car crash didn't help but that was not a footballing injury.

You couldn't rely on Roberts to make it though a season which means needing at least two experienced keepers and the cost that goes with it.

We definitely need them both. Roberts has always been injury prone ( a Boro fan told me that when we had him on loan)

Both keepers have their strong points but in the games they have played and ratio of clean sheets Roberts has to be the better one.

It was the same yesterday Chez. FDM made some good saves but doesn't seem to read the game as well as Roberts, and it's one of the factors making Cullip looking less the player he was last season.

like i side in earlier post, you can always tell a good keeper by the amounts of saves he has to make. A good oone doesnt have to do much as has organised his back 4 well
