Oh dear. His representative - Jamie Moralee of all people - releases a statement about the disrespect shown by Hodgeson and the FA, blah blah blah.

Surely the disrespect is from Rio and his "camp" whinging and moaning whenever someone doesn't think he's worthy of a place.

But do they really think he isn't good enough, or do they think "rio and terry can't be in the same side, so we'll pick the guy accused of racism, rather than the alleged victim's brother". Granted, if he felt that strongly about it, he should have said something at the time rather than waiting, but the excuse that Rio was left out of the team for 'footballing reasons' is being exposed with every new call up.

I don't think much of Rio and he is probably upset at losing his last chance to go to the Euros but Kelly!!!! He has been in the reserves most of the season

Agree with what you're saying, but maybe the reaction from "his camp" tells us a bit about why he's really left out. Maybe he swans around the place thinking he's the dogs bollocks and has a divine right to a place. If that's the case, then what could Hodgeson have said about his exclusion, "yeah, left him out because he's a bit of an arrogant prick." Naah, much more diplomatic to say "footballing reasons".

Terry's the better out of the two, It's obvious the reason Rio isn't going is because he's more injury prone and doesn't get on with Terry. In a way it's a sensible decision but I still would like to see our best players there at the Euro's, if they both loved the country then they'd put the problems aside and show professionalism and play to the best of their ability.

Surely the fact that Rio I constantly injured is a good enough "footballing reason", no? We canno risk a sick note with the ridiculous amount of injuries we have at the moment.

He didn't show a great deal of respect for the rules of the game when he snubbed the drugs test.

He was absent minded, THPP. We've all missed important appointments, surely?!

However, if I were to see myself as a godly creature, I would be tempted to miss an appointment, certainly if it lead to an 8 month 'sabbatical' on full pay. I'm pretty sure I would be scattier than ever.

But if it was injury/fitness related Roy would have told him that's the case, and thus there wouldn't be an issue. But 'footballing reasons' in my view is to do with ability/performances/form/experience. On that note, he has every reason to be pissed off, because he was a regular in a side who finished second in the PL, whereas Kelly was a back up to a team who were far from impressive all season.

Rio's just upset that Hodgson has unwittingly put the kybosh on a sequel to Rio's 'World Cup Wind-Ups.'

Its time to bring in the youngsters. What experience can Rio bring to the squad............................Oh yes not winning anything at international level. The fact is that we have to start to think about the next world cup, that means giving some experience to the younger players. The last world cup was a mess, something went on in the England camp and we never know what.I think Roy is making sure that it does not happen again. The press would be looking for problems between JT and Rio and thats all they would be talking about. At the end of the day, you take the best one of the two and leave the other one behind. We need to talking about the football and not egos.

he is a goon as far as im concerned ......lost all respect for him when the pictures of him and some of the other players out larging it up after under-achieving AGAIN at the euros 8 yrs ago were published......think the major prob with English players is that they need to be brought back down to earth, perhaps the absence of the usual travelling army of fans roaring them on will not go un-noticed, Hodgson , in my opinion is the right kind of manager to instill some sense into the players.........English fans have spent millions of their hard earned cash following the team over the last 20 years and have been served up one disappointment after the other. hope this time things work out better.

Most of the old established players seem to have way too much of a sense of entitlement given that they have underperformed internationally speaking for the better part of a decade. While adding the likes of Henderson and Kelly to the squad looks very odd to most observers, I am happy to reserve judgement and see how the team does. The old guard have had their chance and achieved nothing so Hodgson should be left to get on with breaking it up. Good luck to him.

Rio is not good enough. His 'representative' has just made him look a bit of an idiot.....

Terry hasn't got many more internationals left in him either.

The most hard done by player must be Micah Richards (see other threads).

So Rio considers this a massive snub does he? He might want to have a word with his club manager then, who raised doubts about his fitness and his ability to play games with such short rest periods between.

BBC Sport - Euro 2012: Sir Alex Ferguson doubts Ferdinand England fitness

gald someone found that, that was my thought. basically Rio is only able to play once a week so would maybe, assuming he didnt pick up another knock, be able to play one game. You'd might as well consider Ledley King then, who would arguably be ahead of Rio on defensive abilities (not too great towards the end of the season though).

its all a cloud over Kelly's call up and a bit harsh, as he had a decent season. Its Henderson thats the eybrow raiser, hasnt shown the ability for this level.

So it is "footballing reasons" then. JT is a far better player, and has no footballing related problems (such as a drugs related matter that RF has). If only one player goes, it has to be JT.

Also, JT may be getting a bit "past it", but RF should simply hang up his boots now.
