In short, driving to Italy tomorrow, two of us going so rear seats are pointless, to save on weight (which uses fuel) would it be worth me removing said car seats? only a couple of bolts so seriously considering it as the weight lost would help with fuel consumption....just need a few OPINIONS innit

check your insurance is still valid if you modify the car in this way.

have you told your insurance company you're driving in europe?

yes, second driver insured too so I can sleep some of the way!

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
But where would you sleep without the rear seats?

Rear seats weigh very little. Front seats weigh loads. Stick your mate in the back.
Only fill your tank up to half way.
How far do you want to go with this money saving fandango? Take some cheese & biscuits so you don't have to buy pricey motorway grub?

The noise that your sound system makes will differ without the back seats!

And the amount of petrol you will save will get you about an extra 5 miles or in terms of litres about 0.6 which is about 50p

I personally wouldn't bother

Not sure financially how this would work out but put just enough fuel for say 100 miles then re-fill then repeat. A tankful of petrol weighs a fair bit, so you would be paying to transport fuel!

removing the seats along with spare wheel, airbags, door panels, carpets, stereo, will save some weight. its might save a little when accelerating, but marginally when cruising. racers do it for responsivness in cornering and braking.
