NSC peeps....can any of you recommend a removal co in Worthing? I'm moving to Redhill in 4 weeks so need to think about booking it soon. I've got a 2 bed flat worth of stuff, and I'm thinking it will cost £250. Does that sound about right?

2nd question - any experiences of using Big Yellow Storage co in Brighton? Are they any good cos they seem pretty good value

Thankoo

I used big yellow storage when i moved over to Greece. I thought they were very good. Very good contact and did not mind phoning greece.

Advice -

get insurance, they sell it. Because i walked past a room and there was glass falling out of it. Locked door and they are NOT to blame.

Buy a lock, big one, again they sell one at a good price.

Ask for 2nd level just incase of flood.

cant think of anymore really!

When we moved from Midhurst to Burgess Hill we had I large lorry load deliver and unload and the cheapest price we got was £750 and that was in 2001 so I would be suprised if you get it for £250 and if so that would be a bargain.

I said that to my son and he said it will cost £100+ for 7.5 tonner or a couple of journeys in a Luton Transit. So if a company how ever large or small only quote £250 grab it.

Thanks Stoo - that's really helpful, especially about the insurance. When you have to pay extra for insurance, it tends to be an area you scrimp on, but will make sure we take it out

BG - Christ really?! When I moved here from my 3 bed house, we had 1 large lorry, and 1 medium, they took the stuff from the house to storage, stored it for 10 days, then delivered to 2 different addresses in Worthing, and total was less than £500! I was basing my guesstimate on less stuff to move, albeit more mileage but no storage, hence approx £250.

The firm isn't trading anymore so can't use them again - maybe that's why?

might be cheaper hiring a self-drive van yourself, and roping in a few mates.. might do it for some fish n chips and a few beers!

Did think of that, but physically I'm no help at all, so would need several mates here, and my bf would need to be in RH with help too to sort out the stuff that is being dropped there. Then I've got to get there afterwards. Hence why we decided if we got a removal co, we can both be here, follow the van up there, and both be there when they arrive

However, if BG is right, then that might be our only option!

If you look at simple logistics The driver will be earning probably £75 per day, minimum, the mate £60 approx 10 gals of diesel at £4.50 = £175 that is without insurance etc for the vehicle and the goods in transit, wear and tear of the vehicle, plus profit. Come on AVS you are a bookeeper work it out.

You may find a man with van who would be cheaper and do 2 trips if needed.

My lad needed stuff moving from storage and used Tony Towner's firm from Coldean, can't quite remember the name, poss Mr T?.

Anyway, they were very reasonable and much cheaper than we expected. The good thing about having a firm is that you specify what they have to do and moving furnitue is much more than humping and shifting. Those in the know know how to get awkward furniture around corners & up stairs.

I've never had need to used the Big Yellow but they did keep the body of a murdered woman safe for a few weeks! There's quite a few similar storage firms around so price should be competitive.

Yes, and they know how to load a van properly. Therefore, having more chance of getting everything in one trip rather than just stacking it in any old how. And they protect your furniture edges too, so less damage

Thanks, I will speak to them and see if they will cover Worthing. It's always better to go on a recommendation
