As scoring is under Stableford rules, any handicap between scratch and 28 will be on a level platform. The 18 holes all carry a stroke index depending on how hard/easy the hole is considered. The hardest hole on the course is stroke index 1, the easiest hole is stroke index 18, the others are all guaged in between.
You receive 1 stroke for every stroke that your handicap is greater than scratch, (scratch means no handicap because, on average, you play the course in par or under). Therefore if your handicap is 10, you will play a par 72 course, on average, in 82 strokes, and you will receive a shot on every hole with a stroke index from 1 to 10.
If you play off 1, you will receive 1 shot on the hole which is stroke index 1.
If you play off 28, you will receive 1 shot on every hole, but 2 shots on the holes with stroke index 1 to 10. (1-18 = 18 shots, 1-10 for a second shot = 10, 18 + 10 = 28, strokes received for a 28 handicapper).
