Apologies if covered somewhere else but could one of the reasons for Roy Hodgson being approached is that Trevor Brooking made no secret of the fact that he felt Redknapp stabbed Billy Bonds in the back at West Ham in the 1990's, Sir Trev is an integral part of the whole process and would have had huge input into the eventual appointment.

Hmm, maybe.

I think it is more to do with the fact that Hodgson is within commuting distance of the national football centre at Burton and will be there every day, if needed, coaching the kids and developing things that we won't see at senior level for 10-15 years. Redknapp, meanwhile, isn't willing to move from his current base and wouldn't be up at Burton developing the future England players and coaches.

From an off-the-field perspective, Hodgson is the clear choice (in my opinion, like).

The more I read and hear the more I can understand their approach to Hodgson. For once the FA have got it right.

This is probably one area but there are many more reasons why Redknapp is unsuitable.

I very much doubt Brooking would allow any personal feelings one way or the other influence any decision he plays a part in at the FA.

Hodgson is in my opinion is a better candidate for the job, both in terms of his football experience and his character. Redknapp's appeal lies in the fact that the media all think he is a good bloke and he has finally had some success with one of the biggest budgets in the premier league. To be honest I suspect Redknapp is delighted he doesn't have to give up his nice little earner at Spurs for the poisoned chalice that is the England job.

I think Hodgson is a great choice. He's proven at all levels, a good coach, articulate and businesslike. He has avoided controversy and is unlikely to ave any skeletons in his cupboard.
I just hope that the England squad and fans support him, unlike at Liverpool where player power ensured that his methods weren't really given a chance.
I reckon he will restore some pride in our national game and be a credit to the country.

and Brooking is nothing if not absolutely professional.

I'd venture that he is also quite dull?

I know that this has nothing to do with anything I just thought I'd mention it. For a player that had so much skill and was a joy to watch it seems strange that he is like a cure to insomnia when he's talking.

Honestly if people think Hodgson is a better choice than Redknapp then they have more than 1 screw loose

The FA are making a total arse of it again. Honestly all we need now is a press and fan backlash, Hodgson to say he does not want it on the back of that, Harry to say stuff you Im not being 2nd choice.....and then what......

As are a lot of top sports stars. e.g Nigel Mansell, Steve Davis, Michael Owen, Stephen Hendry, to name just a few.
Is it that their single-mindedness, focus and determination is reflected in their voices? i.e they don't allow too much excitement and emotion to get in the way of their aims.

There is also another reason, Harry apparently has no idea about the digital age and surely sending an e-mail and using computers must be a prerequisite to being an England manager.

I don't know why we have to go through these fake manoeverings to protect peoples fragile egos. Draw up your short-list, publish it if you want to, inverview all of them -as per any other job, and give it to the best one if he wants it. If he doesn't go to the next on the list. Instead we have to go through all this to not upset anyone. I suspect Harry has been asked and turned it down, but of course they don't want to say that. Not that he would have been asked directly, of course, to keep plausible deniability.

That would be supremely unprofessional, and Brooking is nothing if not absolutely professional.

true, though something like that in the past will bound to colour ones judgement, make him er against Redknapp.

i dont think theres been so much fake maneuvers. the FA said day one they wouldnt approach or anounce thier target untill the season was resolved, so as not to unstablise the target. the tabloids have assumed it was Redknapp, but there is nothing but their glee at that prospect to suggest that he was in the frame. some press have suggested he has been making enquiries to the FA asking if he's their choice (im sure i read last week). on the other hand the FA want someone to be involved in Burton, and Redknapp certainly doesnt seem the man for the development side. lo, with WBA season over they approach Hodgson. everything suggest he has been their man all along.
