1. He always calls us Albion. Instead of THE Albion.
2. He always says Brighton STAR instead of Brighton player.

any more?

He invariably provides as negative a spin as possible on anything Albion-related, therby pi$$ing off the vast majority of his readership...

In short, he is a complete fcuking tw@t...

There are no good reasons for hating Andy Naylor, his match reports are superb, barely ever missing a tactical nuance, his contacts are excellent, his interviews revealing, he did a great job on behalf of the fans in highlighting the abuses of the Archer/Stanley/Belotti era (banned by Belotti). The guy is an excellent journalist and is recognised as such by his peers in the profession. Couldn't give a f*** if he's a Stoke fan, that just shows he loves football. One of the best things about the Argus, would be sorry to see him ever move on to a bigger job.

And he does show he gets passionate about Albion despite his analytical detachment, witness the rather amusing campaign he ran recently to get Leon Knight made player of the season.

Dear London Irish,

So the man who told us BZ was leaving about a year b4 it occured is a great journalist...

I believe you are either:

1. Andy Naylor
2. His wife, or

In true John Vinicombe style, if only he would watch the matches he writes about.

Paul Bracchi did the donkey work and broke the story of Archer/Bellotti et al. He is a reporter, not a journalist. And while it's always down to opinions what one thinks of a particular match, I find cannot read his reports any more because they are so generally wide of the mark. I only look at it for the pictures.

Talking of opinions, when Charlie Oatway got sent off at Chesterfield in 2000/01, he ran the screaming headline about how he deserved to go - not about the disappointment of losing in the last minute. Granted, someone else wrote the headline, but the Oatway part filled up most of the report.

I sent him an email saying that the second yellow that he received was a disgrace, and what was he doing saying he should have gone, what game were you watching - blah, blah, blah. He replied with that moronic, lazy journalist epiphany 'well, there was contact...' 'Plus, I know I'm right, and you are not going to change my mind.' Nice reply Andy. So much for healthy debate.

You're quite right, LI, him being a Stoke fan is not relevant. Him being a sloppy writer with a cub reporter mentality is.

The points out of ten system he uses for performance annoys me too, if we won it would be 7 each except for the scorer who got 8, if we lost it would be 6 each,if a player got sent off or substituted ,he would knock off another point even if they were the best player on the pitch or wrongly sent off.
I have written to the Argus letters page on a few occasions about him but the letters never get printed.

Don't know about that, TLO. I was at the Chesterfield game too and I thought it was a clear yellow card. I had absolutely no complaints about the yellow, nor did the people I was with.

It was an incident that probably swung the game so I don't think Naylor can be blamed for concentrating on that. You seem more annoyed with the headline than anything - and, as you say, he won't have written that.

I think Naylor's all right as journalist (don't know what you mean when you say he's a reporter not a journalist - that's just nonsense) but he certainly seems to be lacking in human skills; he certainly doesn't make friends easily.

I must say that I prefer reading him to reading Vinnicombe. Old John's reports never seemed to criticise Brighton at all, even if they'd played like flat-footed wombats. At least with Naylor there's some objectivity (although I still think he's a prat).

Everybody watching a match has different views on it.

I was on hoilday but watched England vs Portugal but when I read The Daily Mail (Free on BA Flights) I was astounded to see their reporter MCGarry had voted Ashley Cole the worst player on the field and given him 3 out of 10 against Ronaldo couldn't believe it so it is not just local papers that get it all wrong.

As said when he exposed Bellotti etc he was a hero. So he supports Stoke everybody has a cross to bear in life. At least he doesn';t change his mind halfway through the season a la John Vinnicombe who would say in September this is the worst Albion side evr and will be relgated then in May when promoted 'I said all along we would go up'.

Oh no, the 'Naylor Bashing' season has opened early this year. My sole gripe is that he's not an Albion fan and football being a game of passion and emotion I would prefer it if all the local reporters and commentators were 'fellow travllers' who go through the same emotions we do. Listen to Ian Hart's commentary when we got promoted from Div 3 (as was) and you'll know what I mean.

No problem with him at all. At least I know I was at the same match as him, unlike John Vinnicombe's reports.

He gets for too much totally unjustified flak because he's not Albion through and through. Having seen the biased and sometimes hysterical match reports of other teams "local" reporters, give me Naylor every time.

Much the same as Hawsey, you don't have to support the team you're reporting on to be good at the job.

I think he is okay. Andrew Hawes on SCR is not a fan either, but it does not stop him offering superb coverage of the Albion.
