Reading were believed to have reached agreement with Brighton and held talks yesterday with Steve Coppell about the possibility of him becoming their manager.
The First Division club's chairman John Madejski is expected today or tomorrow to unveil the successor to Alan Pardew, who quit the club for West Ham last month. If it is Coppell, it suggests that Madejski's No1 target Glenn Hoddle has turned down the £150,000-a-year job. It had been reported that Reading had twice interviewed the sacked Tottenham Hotspur manager
