I also have found them a bit difficult but do understand that work is maybe not their top priority at the moment.

But I agree this has been going on for a while now.

I remember when I lived out of town and only got to the club shop occasionally, it was a big treat. You walk in all smiles, as if you're seeing old friends. You're looking forward to buying something.

You are met with - usually blank indifference. MAYBE they are paid crap. I'm SURE they work hard. I KNOW they are all Albion fans. But they kind of remind me of the "old school" of customer service, where you feel as though they are doing YOU a favour by serving you.

It's a shame. The club shop could be a real hub for supporters. Imagine if there was a coffee bar and you could stop and chat with other fans!

I would say that the guys on the ticket office phones are the complete opposite though and usually helpful and personable.

Have to say as a non-local I know exactly what you mean by the excitement of going into the club shop, however I have found the staff always very friendly.

They do seem to stick together around the back counter rather than at the till, but if you speak to them I've always found them very accomodating.

Last time I was in there, there was about five of them sticking together around the back counter, completely oblivious (or ignoring the fact) that there was a customer waiting at the till with merchandise and money in hand. Let this go for a couple of minutes and when it was obvious nothing was going to happen unless I attracted their attention in some way, I shouted 'yo!' and stuck my hand up to wave to them in an ironic attention-attracting kind of way. Sadly tho, I failed to notice the large wooden seagull dangling from the ceiling right above my head, gave the damn thing an almighty clatter and almost knocked it to the ground. Got stared at by all five staff members like I was the very worst kind of psycho. If only I'd been able at that exact moment to purchase an Albion shovel to dig a hole for the ground to swallow me up...

Hands up tho, my fault for using irony. I have learnt from this and can now move on. Might even be able to show me face in the shop again one day :shootself

I have found when I go into the shop they are normally very friendly but when yuo call up for any reason I feel like I am interupting them or something, getting short answers and if I ask them to check if something in stock I am met with an almost guilty feeling that they have to go check.

Face to face I have always found them friendly and helpful though.

i agree i understand with the recent passing away that their minds will be on other things however in the past they have been a bit miserable. unfortunately i don't liike my job sometimes but i can't be rude to clients as they are the ones who eventually end up paying my wages if the deals pull off.

i have always have to have nothing but politeness and helpfulness from the ticket office staff.

I went in for the first time Monday. The woman in the shop was not in a good mood and was a bit sharp but she seemed to realise it and made an effort to chirp up.

I think it's just a hard time for them right now. I'll go back again in six months and I'll be probabaly met with loads of smiles!!

Aaaah, good old English customer service! Surely a contradiction in terms if ever there was one! :lolol:

LOL - sounds friendly! For sure - wherever I end up living after Japan will have to go some way to compete with the level of service I get over here on a daily basis. :)

Come to think of it, I'm never leaving.
