Who said the manager of the charity shop was an unpaid volunteer? Quite likely he was a paid employee - not everyone working in charity shops is a volunteer - and some of the top charity managers are on substantial wedges.
Not those on the local high street.

But if he's made his shop 'the busiest little charity shop in the UK' may well be (rightly) rewarded. Not the manager of any little tin-pot nothing charity shop!

Maybe the comparison between managing, say, Scunthorpe and Bayern Munich would have been more appropriate, but still the point stands.

A very silly point. Maybe a local newsagent and top manager of WHSmith would’ve been better.
Brighton aren’t some backwater club anymore.

RDZ isn’t a volunteer at Brighton, he gets paid. Some managers want excessive riches, but very few stick with their ‘big’ club. Job satisfaction is also a factor for some managers. Others are ambitious for trophies.
The comparison of a charity shop & M&S is ludicrous.
Yep. More like Lidl versus Aldi. Or Channel 4 versus Dave.
