I find myself having to bleed the bleeding radiators upstairs every night in order to get them to heat up consistently. I can't find a leak in the system and can't think what else to do other than keep doing it. Anyone out there able to help or suggest a "fair" plumber in the Haywards Heath area?

Is it a combi bolier? Might need repressurising, best thing is to get a plumber if not sure though.

The most curious thing..
Repressurising is fairly easy if you know what you are doing (and you have the instruction manual to hand). Otherwise get a plumber as its also easy to over pressurise the system or even drain it by accident.

Get a plumber.

A combi boiler means you have no hot water tank and your hot water is delivered direct from the the cold mains and heated up by the boiler every time you turn the hot tap on.

PS. I am not a plumber and hate everything to do with plumbing (and electricity and gas)

Sorry, I really am a dunce with this kind of thing, what is a combi boiler?

A combi boiler would give you continuous hot water without the need for a tank. It's the conbination of the central heating and hot water in one box.

As already asked is it a combi? If so are you repressurising it once you have bled the radiators and are you getting air coming out of the radiators when you vent them? (sounds a daft question but a lot of people bleed the radiators when they don't need it doing) if so then you are likely to either have:
- a leak
- passing PRV (check the copper pipe outside for water dripping out)
- a knackered expansion vessel

If none of the first 2 ring someone up local (quick search on here brings up a recommended one I think, unfortunately I live in sunny Manchester)

Good luck.

OK
I've got a tank downstairs that holds the hot water and if the lad fills the bath too high we run out so I guess that's not a combi, right?
I think I need a plumber, any suggestions in the HH area?

You're right, that's not a combi. Best thing is to ask neighbours or friends that live locally if they can recommend anyone! Good luck

Sounds like you have a hot water CYLINDER in your airing cupboard and a WATER TANK in your loft. This provides your hot water for bath etc.
Do you have a smaller WAEER TANK in the loft ? As that would be your FEED and EXPANSION TANK for radiators/heating. (and will explain why you never need to top up presssure in combi)

It's either a leak or cold feed and vent are piped up wrong and it's pulling air in the open vent. If you've lived there a while and it's just started happening i'd say leak. Have you got heating pipes under the ground floor could be leaking and you'll never know. Tie the ballvave up on the F & E tank see if it drains out then deffo a leak.

Thanks guys, much appreciated, I definitely need a plumber. I'm sure it must have been said many times before but I for one really value the compendium of knowledge and community spirit that pervades the pages of NSC. I don't do Facebook or any other social networking sites, just NSC. I don't post that often either (as you can see from my time as a member and my low post count). But I read stuff on here almost every day and laugh, rant, agree, disagree mostly in private. That said, every time I've needed advice/help on any issue NSC members have responded and the responses have almost always been spot on.
Thanks again and, if it's not too early to say so, have a great Christmas. all of you.
