I felt sorry for Radcliffe as she clearly could not go omn for another 6km in 95 degree heat when her chance of a medal had gone. Some people have had a pop but most of these people could not even run for a bus in that heat. She can never be accused of being a quitter.

Her hystreonics have been a little over the top, noone had died, people are getting blown up all over the world but what is really getting my goat is this , will I, won't I pantomime about whether she will run in Friday's 10000.

For fecks sake, you are entered, your are representing your country, thousands of athletes would give their right arm to be in the final in front of 70000 people running for their country and a great chance of gold.

Now stop snivelling Radcliffe and get your arse to the starting line Friday !.

No way, she needs to sort herself out mentally - this would be a disaster

Whats a disaster , she doesn't get a medal ?. One thing is certain, if she does not get her arse on the line, she has no chance of getting a medal !. Get a grip and stop whining !.

Whatever happened to - "It's not the winning, it's the taking part"?

She has to run, if she doesn't she is simply wasting a place that another athelete deserved to have. How sporting is that?

I was disgusted with the snivelling. Sorry I know I couldn't do it, but there were plenty of others who didn't finish and was that viewed as a national disaster? Get over it, she was the favourite and for whatever reason she wasn't good enough.

Interesting to see Colin Jackson's take (choker considering the talent) and Michael Johnson's (winner) when discussing what she should do. Predicatably Jackson said she wasn't mentally able to do the 10,000 and Johnson said she should just get out there and do it.

I'm with GG on this one. I suspect no one who's run a marathon would ever have a pop at her. To me she has been the classic victim of the tall poppy syndrome that normally is reserved for our nation's footballers, hence she was not only running against the elements but with the most enormous amount of pressure of expectation. By the GG, did Headland win last night?

Headland won at 5/1 !.

Who would I listen to more, Johnson or Edwards, hmmm, difficult one.

She will go down hugely in my estimation if she bottles it and does not run Friday, wasting a space that every 10000 ladies runner in the UK would pay to be in.

She should run to prove she's no quitter but she won't run ...because she is.

it was all well and good sobbing on tv but the best way to put the marathon behind her is to train and go for gold in the 10,000m

If another athelete made the qualifying time for the 10,000 metres they would be in it, so I understand she is not taking anyones place.

If she is not 100% she should not compete. Only she will know that. From here it looks like she should watch it on the telly.

And she has not got to apologise to anyone. If anyone should be apologising it is the BBC for their relentless hype of her.

*guffaw*

Who knows what demons got into her head. It is probably the toughest event, in the toughest conditions. Give her a break. She is one of the best athletes this country has produced and she deserves better that that.

If she isn't well then she may not be fit to take part.

National disaster? The only people making it a national disaster are the press who are making such a hoo ha over it. They won't leave it alone.

Typical British. Build someone up and then try every means possible to put them down again.

I hope she does try but I won't slate her if she cannot do it.

Have you ever tried to regulate your body temperature? Speaking as someone who has had problems with this recently then I know it is not possible.
Yes I know she is a trained athlete but that doesn't mean you can control every aspect of your body. Mind over matter doesn't always work.

Who is actually slating her ability or talent? She should not have gone on tv. She has nothing to apologise for but I feel no more sorrow for her than anyone else who has to drop out of an event. The whole circus, her interview included is cringeworthy. If you want to believe that she hurts more than anyone else who has to pull out of an event then you too have become part of the circus. IMO like.

I feel that she was forced to go on tv. The pressure from the media is unbearable and I wouldn't want it.

That is why I am saying leave her alone. I wish the press would.

Let her get herself together and yes I hope she does run and shove it down their throats.
I won't laugh at her if she doesn't like some people here who can't even pick four legged runners let alone 2 legged ones.

Being a former athlete i completely felt so sorry for her. Her interview with Steve Cram was eye opening. She felt she HAD to appologise!!! why everyone knows that she is the best marathon runner in the world & she let no one down.
I guess the weight of expectation was on her shoulders but if she didnt feel right she didnt feel right end of story

I have to say that it was not pleasant viewing watching Paula in such distress on Sunday. I felt genuinely sorry for her, I still do!

BUT.....

At the end of the day, no one died! Steve Cramm was like a bereavement councillor on the BBC yesterday.

I hope that Kelly's win will spur Paula on to compete on Friday. If she doesn't she will always look back at these games and think What if?

Come on Paula. Run on Friday!
