P
think how many Brighton kids nowadays have missed out on the thrill of having happy birthday sung to them in a stinking of fish soaking wet arena thanks to the do gooders.

Started as ironic response to Palace 'Eagles' chant, in about 76, 77 ...

Caught on as, distorted by Sussex accent, sounds like 'see goals', just when very second week Wardy, Mellor, and those other heroes could be seen scoring on almost every attack.

On a bad day sounds uncomfortably like 'Seig Heil'.

I have thought this for a long time...........

Does anyone else think that the current symbol of a seagull on the
the shirts, etc looks like something a 5 year old could have knocked
up in playtime?

Personally - I wish we'd stuck with Dolphins!

I'm fairly certain all this has been on before, however I think the Dolphins thing was a contrived Argus poll which included some bzarre suggestions like Rocks and Belles,Dirty Weekenders......and Dolphins ,which won almost by default. And the resultant emblem made that Seagull look as if it was designed by van Gogh.

Of course,we were sometimes referred to as the Shrimps, and an Albion badge with that on it pitched up on eBay recently.

Like most,I suspect,I prefer ALBION.

We didn't have any memorable chant in the early seventies, at least not about dolphins.
The rivalry with the filthy palace scum encouraged "SEAAAAGULLSS", but as quickly as it was chanted, it was taken as our own - rather than a parody of those selhurst sewage.

While our fortunes, goals and crowds increased, the chant was sung with gusto across the thousands of teeming fans at the Goldstone, and so it felt like it had always belonged to Brighton and Hove Albion - 'The Seagulls'.

The moniker and chant co-incided with the general feeling around the fans that we DO deserve great things from this club and City, but as we painfully recall - that was capitalized on by greedy thieving c's. Still the fervour for the club remained undaunted, and expectation will be carried on into the next era - thanks to the love of BHA which remains strong in the hearts of certain men.

When we are firmly ensconced at Falmer, the expectations for glory and greatness will only rise, be founded anew among young supporters, generated for an Albion future - rising from the ashes, the Seagull massive.
