Australia are going into this world cup with three key players injured (Hayden, Lee, Symonds) and Gilchrist missing the opening games to be at the birth of his child, which leaves them with only 11 players available for selection. So, are they able to use subs from outside the squad if these players don't recover and someone else gets hurt during the match? What if Hussey bruised his finger before the first match - would they contemplate playing only 10 men against Scotland if they knew the injured players would be fit again in a week?

I think ...

They can replace any one of their players for a sub. But the replaced player will have to be out for the rest of the tournament and the replacing player would take their place.

They can use subs from their squad of 30.

Discussion around James Kirtley's call up to England A has focused on the fact that he couldn't now play in the WC even if needed as he wasn't named in the original squad...
