Charles Kennedy, Lib Dem leader, is travelling by train from London to Haywards Heath this afternoon as part of Mid Sussex campaign. He is bound to be followed by press and television crews. How about a leaflet distribution on the train and at Haywards Heath station?

Report:-
"Charles Kennedy, the Leader of the Liberal Democrats, will be in Mid Sussex on Friday (20th February) to launch the party's campaign to capture the seat at the next General Election.

Charles Kennedy, accompanied by Serena Tierney, will be travelling to Mid Sussex by train to experience for himself the grim reality of the commuter service from London. He will then meet up with Mid Sussex Liberal Democrats to help them campaign to scrap Council Tax. Later, he will speak at a local Lib Dem Gala Dinner.

Notes :

1. Mr Kennedy will arrive at Haywards Heath station at about 5pm on Friday 20th February before joining Mid Sussex Lib Dems for campaigning activities.

2. Press reception with Charles Kennedy and Serena Tierney will take place between 6.30 and 7pm at the Europa Hotel, Maidenbower, West Sussex

3. For details in relation to the reception contact Anna Hodgetts on 01444 247166."

Nicholas Soames has a majority of about 7,000 - so a Lib Dem victory at the next gen election would seem possible. Soames' website seems to espouse everything that the anti-Falmer brigade would believe in, so perhaps if Charles Kennedy was made aware of the Falmer issue he may realise that supporting Falmer would be a good "anti tory" stance. However, that may sit uneasily with the stance taken by the Lib Dems in Lewes.

How many Brighton fans live in mid sussex? From my Burgess Hill days (many years ago), I reckon it's quite a lot. May not be enough to be politically significant though.

My mum and dad are meeting him, as they are life long Liberals.
They have promised to mention it.

Be careful with this one - despite the fact that two of the most damaging politicians in Albion's history have been Lib Dems, they are far from the norm.

What we don't need is Charles Kennedy feeling his campaigning is being highjacked by a local(ish) issue when even the local Brighton LibDem party is actually in favour of the stadium.

Everyone is in favour of the stadium apart from that idiot from the
planning office and a couple of Falmer locals.
I think what it can do is open the door for the Liberals to pressure
Labour in the Brighton area.
If Prescott says No, I know a lot of people will not be voting Labour and I presume we will be putting up candidates to run against them. I think this makes it a political issue and the more politicians we get interested the better. Labour losing the council and MP's will make it a National issue.

This is possitive campaigning not negative.

Mr Kennedy will arrive at Haywards Heath station at about 5pm on Friday 20th February

So expect his train to arrive at about 11am on Tuesday after a series of broken down trains, late proceeding trains, fatalities in the Croydon area and dust on the railway line.

IMHO Nicholas Soames is a good bloke.

No, he isn't. He's a greedy, fat selfish Tory - and those wankers never change. If I had these qualities, I'd be the one throwing myself under the train at Croydon.

Soames was MP for Crawley until the borough boundary changes and the Torys realised they were gonna lose the seat. He was moved to Mid-Sussex on the basis they thought was a "safe" seat.

Good point, I'd forgotten that. In which case, all the more reason for Charles Kennedy to be made aware of Falmer, and the stength of feeling in the Mid Sussex area. I suggest those on NSC who live in Mid Sussex write to Mr Kennedy and highlight what an important issue it. The excuse for writing is, ofcourse, his visit to HH today.

I will write as an ex-resident of both HH and BH.

Just sent to Mr Kennedy:

Dear Mr Kennedy,

Today I understand you visited the constituency of Mid Sussex, which the LibDems have an excellent opportunity of winning at the next General Election. Although I am no longer living in the constituency, I have previously lived in both Burges Hill and Haywards Heath, and am a season ticket holder of Brighton & Hove Albion. As you probably know, the Albion are seeking to move from their temporary ground at Withdean to a permanent home at Falmer in north Brighton. The club has a wide fan-base throughout Sussex, with a significant following in and around the towns of Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill. The LibDems in Brighton are fully supportive of the Albion's campaign to move to Falmer (although Norman Baker, LibDem MP for Lewes, which abutts Falmer, is against the proposed move). John Prescott is due to decide the outcome of the recent Public Enquiry in the next few weeks, and I would urge you to support the move to Falmer. I am convinced that if the LibDems in Mid Sussex are supportive, this can only be good for your electoral chances.

Yours sincerely....
