Exactly right. It must be an almost impossible job trying to bring change and much needed reform to those men in grey suits, who are notorious for their inability to change much except their choice of wine for lunch. There are many much needed reforms associated with the Home Office and its responsibilities, and I, for one, can't see that if a bit of desk banging, shouting and so on is needed to spur them into some semblance of action that any wrong has been done. Otherwise they'll just muddle along with their own agenda ('Home Secretary, we've always done it this way' etc) and nothing at all changes.

Patel is a woman from a minority background, state educated and wouldn't fit in any way at all into the civil service's idea of what a home secetary should be. It's a tough job at the best of times and given the almost certain opposition of her staff I'm not all surprised she's lost her temper from time to time. Perhaps those who criticise her in earler posts should be reminded of the times when they too have lost their tempers with people who haven't done as they initially asked...

Do your job,not sit on your arse so many do in Public Sector.

Like the people who work in public health in the public sector who have MUCH more success in track and trace than the private sector firms on which the government has spaffed so much money on the wall on private contracts.
Like the people at HMRC who at the moment are running around like blue ar5ed flies trying to sort out what to do about the Irish border question because the Government are just capable of thinking things through.
Like the teachers and school staff who are having to deal with all the COVID restrictions while dealing with the impossible task of helping kids catching up with months of lost schooling.
Like the NHS and hospital staff who..... well yes, let’s not even go there.

You haven’t got a clue.

And on the whole at the moment in our current situation:
  1. if the government has outsourced it to their private sector chums, it’s toilet.
    2. If the public sector is doing it, it works.
