REPORT AFTER THE PETERBOROUGH UNITED GAME

First of all, a word about the problems NSC has been suffering over the past week.

The PtB thread for the Peterborough game disappeared twice during the time it was up. Thanks to a couple of good friends of the game, the situation was rescued – and I did my best to save the predictions as they came in. But it’s quite obvious that some got lost. This week we had a total of only 114 valid entries, the lowest figure for the season so far. Normally, I’d expect about 130-150 players to post a prediction for a league game.

People who post a prediction every week without fail qualify for the PtB Super League. Usually there is someone who inadvertently drops out because they forget. But this week there were five drop outs – far more than usual. My guess is that they did post, but their prediction got lost in the couple of disappearing thread incidents.

In the circumstances, I’ve decided there won’t be any eliminations from the Super League this week. If your entry did get lost, and you hadn’t missed a game all season, I’ve credited you with a score for this week which is equal to the average number of points you have scored in the first 19 games.

I hope this is OK with everyone. If you aren’t a Super League player, and your prediction got lost, I’m afraid you’ll just have to accept that you’ve missed out this week. But that has no consequences. You’re still in the game.




REPORT AFTER THE PETERBOROUGH UNITED GAME

No-one correctly predicted the 2-2 draw. So no-one scores five points.

The 26 players who predicted another sort of draw (0-0 or 1-1) get two points – one for the correct result and one for the correct margin between the teams. All 26 currently stand as joint leaders of the November Player of the Month competition.

This week there were only two ways to score one point. Firstly you might have predicted that Peterborough would score twice. The five players who expected that all thought that the Posh would win. But, no matter, they get the point. Secondly, you might have predicted that the Albion would score twice. 41 players did. But they all thought that the Albion would win. Enough for the one point, though.

Which leaves a large number of players who score no points – 47 in total.

Individual scores are set out in the Tables that follow.




THE SEASON SO FAR

No great jumps up or down the Tables this week, because no-one scored maximum points.

The top five in the Full Table are the same as after the Stockport County game - northstandsteve, Bald Gull, cheeseroll, Curious Orange and Bailers. fatbadger’s two points allow him to jump up into sixth place. northstandsteve stands to be eliminated, though, if he misses a prediction for the next game. At the bottom, there are now just two players who have failed to score in the two games they have entered - bish@freeserve and GJG.

Two of this week’s new entrants are doing rather badly, and sit in joint 189th position – Safeway and Safeway Seagull, who predicted a 1-0 victory for the Albion and an 8-0 victory, respectively. Safeway Seagull originally posted his prediction on another message board, which shall remain nameless. Are the two of them related?

Curious Orange is still top of the Champions League – for players who have entered three-quarters of the games. Bailers is still second and fatbadger is now third – up one place. At the bottom, it’s still WhitleyDennis, who consistently underestimates the ability of Leon Knight to score goals.

At the top of the PtB Super League, it’s still fatbadger. Spiros scored two points this week – enough to mean that he’s now on his own in second place. Trigger is now on his own at the bottom – the only player in this league to be averaging less than one point a game. What would last year’s winner, the late PC Beard, think of him?
