Poyet will cull the squad expertly, just as he did last Summer

In Summer 2010 Poyet got rid of Carole, Cox, Whing etc ... and these all were correct shouts. He had to forget sentiment.

In the last 3 games, Poyet would have learned an awful lot about his squad.

Championship clubs (and this may include West Ham, Blackpool & Wolves), as well as Leeds etc, have pace, power, guile, and better defenders.
e.g. If Colchester strikers destroyed Elphick, think what Gradel, Bellamy, Long, Bothroyd would do at that level.

Surely we've got to:
1. Keep Bennett & Murray on much improved terms.
2. Say goodbye to Wood (awful), Brezovan, Sandaza, Baz, Battipedi & Elphick.
3. Recruit for squad/first team: class goalie, right and left backs, hard centre-half, pacey and proven striker.

The money is there with club revenue say 4 or 5 times greater, and the wages saved on the released players not up to it.

The harder Poyet cuts the better IMHO. There's some dreadful dead wood on the books, most of whom should never have been signed in the first place and have contributed f*** all to the cause.

Whatever else I am glad you included the recruitment of a top class goalie which is something we frankly lack !

Agree with all of this. Would also add signing Lua Lua to the above.

2. Say goodbye to Wood (awful) clearly not, Brezovan, Sandaza, Baz, Battipedi & Elphick.
3. Recruit for squad/first team: class goalie, right and left backs, hard centre-half what? We need pace at the back not some 'ard lad who can't play football, pacey and proven striker.

Clearly he will improve the squad but its not as easy as that is it

Agreed. The ride is over. Brighton now are a professionally set up club with a 22500 stadium to fill, year in, year out!

Luckily Gus supports his players, but he is fiercely ambitious and will take no enemies as he moves us forward. :)

Sandaza is reportedly going and it would be no surprise if Holroyd also went. Wood is on loan. If Wood comes back (which would not be a surprise) we will need 2 new strikers, three if Murray goes. So far we know we might be getting Hoskins so still looking for one or two more.

Baz, Battipiedi, possibly Navarro and maybe Kish (unless he becomes a player/coach) seem possible departures. We are rumoured to be looking at the two lads from Dundee Utd and possibly Darren Carter from Preston. That would give us a greater depth of quality but maybe still lacks a stand-out player. The addition of LuaLua would make us a more interesting side for sure. Remember that even a promoted Norwich might want to take a chance on Bennett. That would be a serious gap to fill.

Defensively we can assume Tunnicliffe will go but Jimmy Mac might stay if he is prepared to fight for a place and accept not being first choice. We need a big, agile, ball playing centre back but as Rio Ferdinand is already under contract it may be a hard position to fill. It would drop Elphick down a place and I suspect he might choose to go but he still has time on his contract.

Not sure about a keeper. I could see us starting with Ankergren, Brezovan and Poke as long as none of them let us down in pre-season.

Dont think there is much between our goalies.
Both are 7/10 IMO. Looking at our defence, Painter, Greer & El Abd are the three to keep. The rest? Meh. Calderon as cover for RB.

Would that be Calderon who both Gus and Tanno have said can easily play at a higher level and has played all games (unless suspended) because they love him? Two dodgy games does not disguise the fact he can play higher up

Poke, Baz, Battipiedi, Holdroyd, Sandaza, Wood, McNulty and Elphick can go and Murray will not come back.

I'd make a rubbish Manager for sure but Cald looks great going forward but defensively erratic and something of a maverick ... (maybe a short memory) I'm worried that he'd be targeted in Championship. But I recognise he's very highly regarded so I've missed something somewhere

I think that the squad has done brilliantly this season, a lot have played out their skins, but ultimately I am unsure whether most would cut it at the higher level.

Need a new First keeper, First CB, full back cover, attacking/box to box midfielder like crofts and striker. The only ones I'm truely happy with in a team pushing for the top 6 are bennett, greer, murray (if he stays) and bridcutt. Noone's a luxury player who we have got away with because of how shit some of the teams in this league are, at best he will be an impact sub next season. Obviously we then need to clear out all the deadwood.

Sandaza, Batti, Baz, Poke, Elphick, Kish, Wood, McNulty, Brez are no longer needed.

We have a really strong core of stars like Bridcutt, Greer, Murray (if he stays) and Bennett, but we need to rebuild around that really.

Rugrat. Spot on about Calderon.
Has been fantastic over last 16 months, but lately teams have worked out his defensive frailties.
But definitely keep him. Whole defensive unit will be better when an additional classy/hard centre-half joins, and goodbye Elphick/Brezovan.

Number one signing must be Murray. Over last 2 years, in winning and losing sides .... that guy stands out as class in so many ways.

Gus - please say goodbye to Wood. He just hasn't got it.
